  1. It might help to continue dosing excel due to the erratic nature of DIY CO2 systems. Although if your CO2 was consistent, which it could be, then there is no real point dosing a carbon substitute such as Excel. In fact, most people find Excel melts their twisted Val.
  2. I don't think HFF sell 4DKH water, the easiest way to make your own would be adding baking soda to distilled water. Google for the recipe.
  3. You need to use 4DKH water in your drop checker.
  4. Be patient grasshopper :sage:
  5. I dosed a mix of NO3 and K2HPO4 Mon, Wed, Fri with aquatic trace Tue, Thur, Sat and water change Sun. Seems like a similar deal minus the weekly W/C and trace. What's the issue with EI again?

The reagent should have come with the drop checker, you can make your own 4dkh water or buy it.

You need to half fill the bulb with 4DKH water then add a couple of drops of reagent to it. This should make it a blue colour, the more drops you add, the more intense the colour. Then put it in your tank as far away from the CO2 diffuser as possible. Blue indicates not enough CO2, green is safe for fish, yellow shows dangerous for fish. Although I run mine yellow most of the time without issues.
  8. No idea yet. I'll wait and see where the hardscape takes me 8)
  9. 30 litres :digH: I'll probably wash a bucket here and there over the next week till it's done.
  10. Do these species glow under UV light? If so, wicked.
  11. Gave the tank a really good clean yesterday, also cut (butchered) the grass and moss so excuse the mess and front gravel level.
  12. Liam and I collected hardscape on one of our days off today. Here's a sneak preview

    Greetings All

    Welcome to the fishroom 8)
  14. I never said it was high light, I even said I could run this as low tech if I wanted My AA tank is only a couple of cm shallower than this and the two T5HO on that are more than enough for it. I feel that it's an appropriate amount of light but I fear that the light spread with the current unit will be an issue. May add a T8 (or another T5HO if I can find another cheap one) at a later date. Still haven't finalised plants, it'll either be a really broad palette or really limited, I'll let the hardscape decide. Speaking of which, I should have by Thursday so I'll need to buy some substrate this week too.
  15. :smot: I agree with Li@m, it's more about the collection of equipment than a certain piece. I could run this tank low tech with the T5HO or high tech if I add pressurised CO2 and nutes.
  16. If I were moving a tank this size, I'd hire a trailer and put a thick duvet or two on the bottom. On top of that, I'd have a piece of ply with poly on top and then place the tank on that. I would then fold the duvet up the sides of the tank and into the top so there is no exposed glass that could come into contact with the trailer. If possible, secure with a rope or bungee cord.
