    substrate

My theory is that there's not enough demand to make it profitable here, the aquascaping scene is relatively small here. Sure those substrates help but everyone here seems to do just fine with what we have available.
  2. It looks like GSA or green spot algae to me. Takes ages to grow but when it does, it's hard to get off. Is that a slow growing plant by any chance?
  3. My first ever tropical fish were dwarf gouramis, went through over half a dozen of them before I gave up. I did everything right, still didn't work. I guess they're just one of those fish :dunno:
  4. That Jungle Bubble is genius! If I were you, I'd leave it how it is for now. You're making me want to plant another nano :nilly:
  5. The tank's looking really clean at the moment, I wouldn't change a lot about it  In regards to the sword, rehoming it to a larger tank is probably best. It's likely to be a common species so perhaps even exchanging it with another member who has a smaller sword or waiting till it fully matures and produces pups could work here. I can also offer you a few pygmy chain sword plants if you want to pick them up, they'd suit the scale of your aquarium a bit better 8)
  6. Welkom to the fishroom, I'm around 3/8ths Dutch myself 8)
  7. Welcome to the fishroom! Looking forward to pics 8)

    lighting

I'd be looking at the Philips 20W 6500k/cool daylight bulbs, they're a personal favourite of mine.
  13. Thanks for the feedback crew! You guys read my mind 8) Here's a photo of my aquascaping crew
  14. Here's my latest scape. This weather makes me not want to wash gravel but I'll likely add another half bag to this tank just to boost up the sides a bit more.

    lighting

Yes, all the time. Most of my smaller planted tanks used them successfully. On a tank that size it might be handy to mount it a fair distance from the water to avoid algae issues.
  16. Ask them if it comes wired with a plug and with waterproof end caps, trust me, you want waterproof end caps. If not, they should be easy enough to source.
  17. You should be able to get away without additional CO2 if your lighting isn't too strong. Upgrading to a 4x T5HO unit will require you to use CO2, a path you probably don't want to take. I'd just wire a unit like this in under the hood.
  18. My biggest rock came in at 17kg, not my favourite rock of the lot though. Here's three more layouts, not happy with the way the camera captures them.
  19. This should tell you all you need to know.
  20. Agreed, just getting the bones of it out. Once I get the Oyaishi and Fukuishi sorted, I'll add more Soeishi and Suteishi
  21. And here are three hardscape layouts I tried this afternoon (in chronological order). Constructive criticism and advice is welcome!
  22. Here are some rock formations I found interesting and inspiring at the locations where the rocks were collected.
