  1. Have you considered getting a nano heater so you could put something more suitable in there? Such as a Betta?
  2. Mountain minnows aren't particularly suited to a fish bowl. What temperature is the bowl?
  3. What are the dimensions of this tank? When you say 10L I keep picturing a bucket. Remember minnows love to school in large groups and swim a lot, have you considered getting a different species?
  4. I found with my sea green grit I could never get it 100% clear. It fogged up the tank for a good couple of days but settled fine eventually.

    LED lighting

That's probably your top priority if you're using lights like these. I'd get onto it before you install these lights.
  6. Awesome build David, will be watching keenly 8)
  7. I had a quick read through those, quite useful! That'd be great if you could spare one
  8. Does anyone know if we can get Tiger Lotus seeds here? Starting an aquatic plant from seed interests me and I was wondering what the availablity of them here is? Also, any tips for starting them IF I can find them? Cheers crew.
  9. I've had some of my best results using sand and fert balls: http://i445.photobucket.com/albums/qq17 ... G_5186.jpg http://i445.photobucket.com/albums/qq17 ... G_5187.jpg It sounds like a heavily planted tank with little hardscape is what you're after. Are you able to draw a picture or find an example online of the sort of thing you're after? In terms of lighting, I'd be looking at one pink and one white if I were you but two white would be fine also.
  10. What are the dimensions of this tank? If I were you, I'd keep the fluorite for a tank where you can use just fluorite, mixing it up is a real pain. Instead see if something like mineralised top soil would be viable for you. Cheap but it takes a fair bit of time. Just make sure you cap it properly too. Might wanna check SOG for tubes, they usually stock a decent range. What are your goals with this tank?
  11. Yeah the link I posted and a sense of humour apparently.
  12. Almost a week since planting and I can spot several hair grass shoots. Buying submersed grass is primo
  13. But if it's clogged with filter sludge then how much of that O2 is actually reaching the bacteria?
  14. Okay you win, you lost me Well if mechanical is what you're after then chuck the bio media in first. At the end of the day, the loss is likely negligible no matter what you do so it's all down to personal preference.
  15. Can't I disagree to disagree? I don't think that bacteria is restricted to the filter sludge, I believe it has the capacity to move, spread and multiply throughout the system via water. Any sludge that's blocking surface area for bacteria that needs water movement over it (aerobic I believe) would decrease the amount of bacteria that is able to survive on the media.
  16. No, but the foam first, then the wool, then the noodles and bioballs. And by first, I mean the first thing the water coming from the tank contacts which is usually the bottom.
  17. My canisters always go sponge, filter wool, bio media. This helps to keep the bio media a bit cleaner than having the mechanical filtration last. You won't need more than one tray with mechanical media in it, perhaps even half a tray.
  18. Agreed, it's a pain to have to re-stick them to the glass :nilly:
  19. See here viewtopic.php?p=649300#p649300
  20. The only thing I use to keep Cyano away is good flow and CO2.
  21. This one is good if you have a lot of time to read http://www.aquaticplantcentral.com/foru ... aping.html This one is alright too http://www.plantedtank.net/forums/showp ... stcount=11
  22. A Trachipterus jacksonensis of course
