    Lighting?

I hope you have a way to mount them, I will clip mine on but the neck for the light isn't too strong so it sags a bit, I need to secure it with fishing line or similar. If it wasn't going to be a rimless tank then I'd take them apart and mount them in a hood. Good luck

    Lighting?

Yeah, $10 ea for the lights. $5 ea for the screw in energy savers. Turns out the lights were bayonet so I had to get different bulbs. $7 ea for those. I reckon you'd only need two for a 60x30 and you'd be able to grow most plants. You could get away with one maybe in a low tech setup.

    Lighting?

The one I'm using was made by my friends Grandfather, so it's DIY. But the one's I've purchased for my new tank are these except clip on: http://www.mitre10.co.nz/shop/lighting_ ... 101555.cfm Then head to the lighting section and find bulbs that are the same fitting type as the lamps and in the colour 6500k/865.

    Lighting?

I have a 60x30x30 tank with 2x 6500k T8 tubes. If I could do it again I'd use 6500k energy savers in the lamps you get from Mitre10 or Bunnings, two should be enough. I grew hairgrass (possibly the stuff you have) under 1x 6500k energy saver bulb in regular sand. Good luck!
  5. Would a pump be better than a power head then LA?
  6. Thanks Ira Now I need to find a large enough and water tight container. :-?
  7. Fish waste seems to be enough for me for the nutrients plants get through their roots. But for the nutrients they need through their leaves, PMDD or Flourish should be fine. PMDD is great value for money, HaNs usually has some.
  8. Could this work? Or would it be better if the power head was on the other pipe (sucking)? EDIT: The blue box underneath is a closed canister filter.
  9. The pump could be below the water line, it's just up there for clarity.
  10. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Home-living/Pe ... 222485.htm Could that be used externally to create an inline filter? I was thinking of putting a pipe on the in end at one side of the tank and the out at the other side. With the power head outside of the tank, would it work? Thanks!
  11. If he wasn't so colourful, he'd do well in the Black Metal industry.
  12. What else is in the tank? Sometimes fish small fish can be cleaned up very quickly.

    My tank.

I didn't even notice it until you pointed it out...
  15. After I factored in the 53 BN's incl. babies in my breeder tank. . Not very sensible but funny.
  16. No sorry, it's all sold. But you can usually order some from your LFS, HFF got me some of mine.
  17. Sweet as. It really depends on how much I get quoted for, for four extra bits of glass it seems to put the price up quite a bit.
  18. I've decided to divide the 80cm long one into 4 spaces giving each fighter 10L of room. Good point about the breeding Scottie. Just waiting on a quote now
  19. Hey there. (All measurements given are Length x Width x Height) I'm thinking of getting a divided tank made with permanent compartments in it. Now the only place it can really go (provided I sell my DIY divided tank) is on the 80cm x 25cm space on my fish shelf. So I can do it in two obvious and easy to understand ways. They will both have a 5cm space behind with a 1cm gap for flow. A. 75cm x 25cm x 25cm. This would give me 5 compartments each measuring 15cm x 20cm x 25cm / 7.5L / 1.95g B. 80cm x 25cm x 25cm. This would give me 8 compartments each measuring 10cm x 20cm x 25cm / 5L /1.3g I know that bigger is (almost) always better but if I can get 3 more fish in one unit (bigger than commercial barracks) then surely it's okay? I just want a second opinion before I go and get this thing built. It will be heated, filtered and have a little java fern and moss in each compartment. So really they should be getting the benefit of 50L / 13g of water, right? Is it worth getting the glass between the stalls tinted or not? Thanks heaps!
  20. Yeah, mine seem to go like that when I catch and move them. Also when they need to camouflage. More than happy to take him off your hands, thanks!
  21. Once I put him in he hung around for a while, backed into the thick stems a bit now. Dropped in a slice of cucumber for him and the ottos. If they don't get along I have another tank he can go into, hopefully the other BN I have of similar age is a female. Thanks heaps!
  22. If you really want to get rid of him you could bring him to my place. I could even do a swap for a baby (20mm) bristlenose if you like?
