  1. Big native tank then? Get customers feeling all patriotic  , also not many NZ'rs have seen our natives, you could make a really nice setup out of it.
  2. FOWLR isn't quite the same as a fully fledged marine tank, unless you have sharks I would go with lots of corals and bright small fish. Tropical freshwater is ok, but marine is where all the commercialism is - unless of course you just want this for personal satisfaction.
  3. oh yep, my bad. Just saw the 2.4m and forgot the rest haha
  4. I would go a beautiful reef tank, whenever people go to an aquarium they want to see the 'pretty corals and the nemo fish', appeal to their tastes LA.
  5. DavidR sums what I said before up nicely, sensible husbandry is required especially for an expensive fish like an aro.
  6. Why are you trying to put an aro in the 180cm when you have a 240cm :happy1:
  7. Henwards pacu are still way too big, I visit him occaisionally and they are one of the biggest and most active fish you will get here, they almost have more presence than the aro in the tank they are that active. + they are not 20cm more like 30-40cm disk.
  8. Definately not pacu. No aro especially not silver and blacks, why invest in an asian one if you cannot house it to the best standard. I would disagree with nymox there on the bichirs, I'd say you can keep the dels and the ornates and sens fine in that size tank, the footprint is fine and mine is about the same size and my bichirs are totally great in that. But stick to one ornate i think.
  9. I dont agree with keeping an aro in a tank this size, I have kept one before in a same sized tank, it wasn't anywhere fully grown but I felt guilty about it a bit. Minimum IMO should be 180L X 70H X 80D, the aro can reach 60cm and it doesn't look right in a tank the same width as its body length. Search around on the forum for henwards RTG tank - suitable sized tank there, and his RTG is a fat...one  Get bichirs 8) and some nice BIG cichlids + BGK + eel etc. Whatever you like really, oh yeah and not a clown knife, even worse than the aro, gets waaaay too big and is not very flexible. Bichirs are and will be the best!
  10. I have fasted my fish for 3 weeks before. No issues. The thing is that as mammals we think food is required every day, in reality meals are not everyday for fish and with different metabolisms they can endure longer periods without food like reptiles.
  11. Sell me your dels, they look crap anyways :dunno:  worth a try haha
  12. If your gonna go expensive, go red. Looks much more impressive IMO. Like a wedding hey Henward
  13. Buy a pool henward and put everything in it. You're gonna have WAY too much bioload as it is when they get bigger  I will pop by soon, see how things are going, I have mid-semester break at uni.
  14. Which Uni? Im at University of Auckland right now btw, anyone wanting to do stuff on native fish I know a course that does it
  15. I dont know how long, better to ask henward that since his is 'adult'. His one is at a foot, but I have seen them up to 20inches. I think his took him 2 years? I feed it hikari stuff, massivore, shrimp occaisionally. Mine is growing quick, noticable difference in size and colour, hes about 15cm now, got him at around 7-8cm. Will post pics again soon I think, just internet going slow :an!gry
  16. Nah, think thats just a regular, red fins look better, still not a pretty fish though.
  17. Haven't seen any small pink ones before, but a red fin normal runs for about 40-50 bucks at HFF i think
  18. ah ok, cool thought it would be best to ask first.
