  1. I feel your pain. My room constantly smells like tank water and I have a constant waterfall effect in the background haha.. I've found that ventilating the room during the day helps a lot. The smell is usually worse in the morning because the window and door have been closed. You kinda get used to it after a week or so, and you can immediately tell if there is an ammonia spike because the whole room will stink. I keep telling myself to get those room fragrance stick diffusers but I keep forgetting, I reckon a couple of those would help. Just keep on top of your water changes and the smell can be controlled. Oh, and remember to clean out your filter media more often as well. I'm running a sump tank so the filter wool is more exposed to air and tends to smell more. I just cleaned mine out this morning and the room smells sooo much better lol.
  2. lol! Good one! Happy Easter!
  3. I think 60L might be a bit too much for a hang-on-back (I may be wrong), but why not just go overkill a little bit and get a small canister filter? Something like a Fluval 105 would be more than sufficient for 60L, but you'll know that the water quality is maintained.. Not sure how much they go for these days but I think it's around $100 for a small canister filter. Never scrimp on filtration! HTH

    Jam :nilly:
  5. Looks absolutely incredible - good job!
  6. Try Greg the tank builder, he's listed in the Commercial Trade & Exchange sticky thread. He replaced one of my tank lids recently for $5. Alternatively, I think Hollywood Fish Farm also replaces tank lids, but they have a longer waiting time. HTH.
  7. I think if I ever did (hopefully!) invest in a really high-end aro, I would get a tank similar to David R's - shallow but bigger footprint. That way, you can really see the fish swim around properly without stopping for a glass wall. I reckon aros look best when they are swimming horizontally, much more majestic. But someone once told me that when you're shopping for an aro, look at the way it swims vertically - it should look like a smooth airplane landing..
  8. That's so cool, lol. I assumed (naughty!) that in nature, ponds would have natural aeration, eg wind/ rain, thus an artificial pond would also need the same. Expanding on that logic, I thought that if there is no oxygen, everything dies and gives off a really funky smell, as I've experienced with an old canister filter that I forgot to clean out lol. Interesting idea for a tank, much less "artificial" than the rest of us haha.
  9. If you're going to spend $5K you might as well save up a little bit more and get something more exotic. How about a blue-base crossback gold? Those are absolutely stunning, but I don't know if they can be brought in/ how much they would cost. But, one can dream!
  10. Just curious, Stella: 1. Is the lack of aeration going to be a problem? 2. Does it smell like a stagnant pond? :-?

Red (I think we've stumbled into what programmers call an 'infinite loop'.. In this case, 'The Strawberry Loop'.  )
