  1. :roey: Where are the city slickers?
  2. "My candle burns at both ends. It will not last the night. But ah my friends, and oh my foes, it gives such a light!" Not sure who wrote that actually, but it was Roald Dahl's favourite quote and he's my favourite author, so lol.. (95% sure I quoted it correctly as well! :smln: )
  3. Not sure about that, Adrienne, but I'm sure they would have figured a way to do that as well.. Malcolm, the asian arowanas worth having are all technically endangered and are only allowed to be bred by licensed fish farms in Asia. But legality aside, you'll first need an indoor swimming pool with a constant temperature of about 28 deg C, a bunch of high-grade arowanas and plenty of time. From my understanding and reading, in order to find a breeding pair, you must first raise a batch of juveniles and watch which ones pair up. Then you've got to wait for them to reach maturity. From then on, it's all downhill. All you need to do is provide breeding conditions, wait for the father to release the fry from his mouth, then raise the fry as your own. Easy peasy. So.. Time to start :digH: your backyard to install that indoor swimming pool!
  4. lol, let me know if you do! :slfg:

    silica sand

Agree lol! I used to have white silica sand in my previous tank, but every bit of leftover food/ waste/ driftwood raspings was always visible. It annoyed me so much that some of it was always on the other side of the filter intake and it looked so ugly. Now I'm using small gravel which hides all the junk lol. I don't mind vacuuming it because I know that it won't get sucked up like silica sand and my tank bottom looks so much better lol.
  6. I'm sure that most animals are quite adaptable. Under extreme hunger, I'm pretty sure you could train most fish to eat just about any sort of food you give them. Algae eating plecos love courgette and cucumber, so I don't see why otos wouldn't as well.. Weird of your LFS to say that they would rather starve. I'm sure that your otos would steal a bit of leftover flake food as well, but you just don't see it. Now, wild-caught and/ or carnivorous fish - that's a different story! Such a pain to get them to eat anything good for them.
  7. Yeah, then you'll get an aro with fatty liver AND diabetes!
  8. Ohhh boy, sharks give me the heebie jeebies lol! But, nice video all the same.. Reminds me of a documentary I watched once where this shark expert discovered a certain spot on sharks' noses. He would rub this spot and the sharks would just fall asleep! Well, probably not asleep, but they would just go limp like a puppy getting its belly rubbed. Amazing stuff, but I wouldn't try it for all the money in the world.
  9. There was an internet clip doing the rounds a few years ago.. :sage: Some people took a normal looking piece of raw pork, sat it on a plate in the kitchen and poured some coke over it. When they came back after 10 min, there were thousands of little worms crawling out of the meat. ...hasn't stopped me yet lol! It's too delicious to give up, I just choose to forget ever watching the video haha.

    Bloodworms?

Not that I've ever seen but the only live bloodworms I've seen were in my friend's pond that I was helping him clean out lol.
  11. My guess would be that the bacteria colony became anaerobic and died, thus causing a tank re-cycling and the ammonia spike.. Sorry for your losses, but hang in there!
  12. Where's David copperfield when you need him lol..
