  1. Thanks for that LA, maybe theres hope yet? The first one was laid 9/11, 2nd egg 11/11 and maybe one more on 13/11. I managed to get a quick pic of in nestbox and I can see two eggs. They started sitting on them after the 2nd egg. My mum in law told me earlier today that they will stop sitting on them after a while. So I will probbly just wait for that before I take them out so I don't get attacked. Will be a shame they have been such devoted parents but it is their first time. Can't wait to have little babies like firefish! :bounce:
  2. :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: Love them! I don't think I have babies in my nestbox, I can't hear anything but they are still sitting on them. I spose I'll have to go and take out the eggs at some stage
  3. I would also be very careful of the above. If he isn't in charge after 4 years and its obvious he's a drinker (how can you miss the smell?), I would say he is a friend of the boss maybe or the boss feels a certain loyalty for him after 4 years. If he's got a family and the boss knows it would make firing him that much harder. But I do agree drinking in the workplace is not acceptable. Maybe make a complaint in writing and keep a copy?
  4. They are sooo cute! I love the names you have picked. How long will the parents wait before having more eggs? Bet you are stoked!
  5. They are looking awesome, it will be cool to see what colours they are when older. That's one of my favourite things about breeding pets, you just never know what offspring they will produce. And your two chicks look so different colour wise. I have only ever seen the normal kind, never a light one. Are you going to keep them both? It would be hard not to get attached to them sicne you've watched them develop and grow. I'm sure I saw some at the shop the other day and after seeing yours grow I think they are so cute! I love that photo of your boy. I am still waiting to see if the cockatiel eggs hatch I haven't looked but they have been looking after them so well and my male bird is guarding his family. Doesn't talk to me anymore just screams his warning that there is an intruder. Bit sad he used to do that scream to warn us of intruders when he lived inside. You are so lucky you can see yours and hold them. I'm scared to go in there because I'm sure I'll get attacked. Hopefully they hatch this week. Will I be able to hear them if they do or does it take a while?
  6. Congrats on the baby lovebirds! This has been so awesome to read and see the tiny babies! They are gorgeous and now I'm excited! I think my cockatiels have their first eggs but not sure. I haven't actually seen them mate but I'm not there constantly I had seen him try but he couldn't get on. I think she had one egg on tuesday cause she was acting different and spending hours in the box and another one on thursday. Then her and him started spending alot of time in the box even in there together. If they do have eggs does that mean one of them is in the box constantly? Even now and then in the day they are both out but at night one or both are in there. I don't want to go in the aviary and check their box I just figure I'll leave it to nature. I have a pied male and a whiteface female and now can't wait to see if their sucessful. I hope to see many more pics of your baby lovebirds they are so cute!
  7. How is the breeding going? I have been thinking it would be cool to try and breed albino longfinned. Great to see others have already been giving it a go. I was going to get some long fin and grow them up to try and find a female to breed with my male albino. Was wondering how many generations it would take to get the young to be all long finned and majority albino, I'm guessing alot. Would be great to hear how everyone is going and if anyone had some young X's I could start with (please pm me if there is). I have 2 albino males so would consider swapping the smaller one.
  8. Hi all, just bought some goldfish the other day. Seller sent the wrong fish and I have said I would pay for that one if we could keep it and still send the ones I originally paid for. Seller has cme back to say it is a nice black oranda and worth $20 + $10 postage (paid $10 per fish +$10 postage for originally purchased fish). At present the fish is light gold whitish head and a speckled bronze bum. Not a black scale on it. IS it possible it could go black eventually? From what I know of fish they start off bronze and change to gold eventually some even go through a black stage on their way to gold. I know that price still isn't high and if he is really from the good trade me breeder he will be spectacular. But wondering if this is happening because of the muck up and he doesnt really know what he sent me. Also should I have to pay postage again? I didn't think so because it wasn't my fault? Thanks
  9. Yip, I'm sure I read somewhere that one of the colour variations in swordtail (maybe the wag kind) is only possible because it was bred with a platy originally.
  10. I will get some photos next time I'm out there. I remember giving her a few platys, then a heap of swordtails (adults and babies) and the last fish I gave her was one platy. A couple of the platys I bought last time were I believe hybrids to begin with because they had that dull brown colour and horizontal stripes which I have only seen in swordtails but were labeled as platys and not as big. I had a male platy but when i gave them to my friend he went too, there was a couple of platys i couldn't catch and they seemed to always be pregnant for months afterwards so I had to think they were mating with male swordtail but never seen any offspring.
  11. My friend had a couple of platys and then I gave her a heap of swordtails. Went out there the other day to find a heap of hybrids! i must say they look awesome, big like a sword but really colourful and deep bodied like a platy. The males get tiny swords as well. Next time I'm out I might take some pics. Don't worry everyone, she doesn't sell or trade any fish. The tank is at her parents and they love the colour and they way the fish are so friendly! They are also in love with a brown male bristlenose who lives under a half coconut shell because he comes out then lifts the side of the shell and quickly darts back under.
  12. I have had Frontline reccomended by a few people but never tried it. I just shave my sons head, hes had nits so many times he volunteers for shaving now. My dauhgter has light hair so i get them, shampoo and do all that. I think nits die if they dont get blood/fed for 24hours so i just hang blankets out for a day otherwise id run out of water washing them all the time. One or two kids have had them in my sons class for nearly his whole 3 years of school.
  13. Thanks for that I sent him a pm but never got an answer. Too bad. I'm going to empty my 7ft whether it sells or not. We are keen to see it gone, it's on tm at the moment but only ever watchers. My partner wants to put it outside but I don't want too would rather just sell it. Hopefully someone will want it this time. Our price on it on there is already $1000 cheaper than what we paid. I live in hope! I know being up here makes it hard for anyone to buy it.
  14. Hi all, just thought I would ask here as they are always watching my fishtank auction so hoping someone knows them. We have decided its time to part with our big fishtank before our new arrival in August. I would like it to go to someone who seems really keen and they watch every auction I do so that says alot. Thanks if anyone can help.
  15. If you haven't got one already put a cover over your pond. Friend's cat came home with a bright reddish comet about 10cm body and huge shredded tail. Took them a second to get over their amazement and check for vital signs. Fish still alive with just a few scales missing and a small wound to the head but looking good and swimming. Asked the first neighbour and found her home so hopefully she is back there now. Neighbours had taken the cover off thinking it would be fine with the fish at the bottom for winter. A few nice warm days and they were all at the surface. Poor old girl!
  16. My biggest girl was about the size of a bread and butter plate when I sold them. I had a big school of about 14, looked awesome too! Very eyecatching and friendly. I wanted to have a big school because its something you don't see often but I had them in my 7ftx2ftx2ft tank.
  17. Nice pics, really love your angel fish
  18. I buy locally. I know they are more expensive but it is our only shop for about a 2hour drive, if they closed I would be lost. If I want something special I might seek it out elsewhere or if their prices are shocking ($50+ higher than anyone else). Would rather buy fish I can see if they are expensive than order some. I find our lfs don't get the nicest quality fish, maybe they don't order enough.
  19. I like them, they look quite cool. How much roughly are they worth? If anyone knows. When I ask at lfs I get told I have to look on their fish list. But I have yet to see it. Thanks for everyones help
  20. Just seen these on the list in the Commercial section. Does anyone know anything about them? I am looking for a new type of bristlenose but have no idea what the names are. Is this the same as the snowball? When I google it I come up with a couple of different fish. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
  21. I would also love to dive. I think it would be the best experience ever and I probably wouldn't want to get out. When I was form 3 or something i got epilepsy and was told I couldn't do some sort of diving or maybe any can't remember. But I am alot older now and have gone for about 12 years with no fits and no medication so hopefully one day I will pluck up the courage to learn.
  22. Hi everyone, I have been breeding albino bristlenose for a few months now and have really enjoyed it. I love them, nothing more exciting than knowing Mr Bristles is fanning some eggs. I have decided I would like to try another ancistrus or pleco. I have 4ft and 7ft planted community tanks with driftwood. I really love the king tiger and queen arabrasque but am thinking these may be jumping in the deep end! Also the queens are quite expensive, I have never seen the other in a shop but I have seen others photos and fell in love. So does anyone have any suggestions that would be a step up from the bristlenose? I will be putting them in the 4ft with my albino bristles, will this be alright or could there be conflict? I would make sure to add lots of caves to keep everyone happy. I could put them in the 7ft but then if they breed I wouldn't really get to see and monitor it. We don't really see much up here so I have no clue. It would be great to hear your ideas and names of some. Thanks NC
  23. I do my partners tax return online, we have to file one because he gets a % of the fish catch he is classed as self employed. I have mates that wanted to check if they were owed anything and fell into one of those tax refund sites. It's pretty silly really pay them 12.5% to do it when if you ring the IRD it's free, true you may end up owing but you can't escape forever. And if all has been done correctly you will be fine. Also they told them they would have an answer pretty promptly then it took them about 3 months. I also offer to do my friends taxes, its something that seems difficult but isn't that bad. And with the kind of work they do often they get a little bit of money back, although some of them have been evading it for years (and ACC) and one day it will come back to haunt them.
  24. Could it be your bore water? I'm sure someone told me bore water was no good for fish and when we get water from the neighbours bore in summer i don't use it for fish. My friends bore water is brownish tinged. Could anything have been absorbed through the ground into your water that would do this? I'm not sure what but what springs to mind if farmers spraying/fertilizing their paddocks? Apart from that I have no idea but good luck!
  25. Adam's blue man wants the 13 fish but they all have to be perfect quality. Doesn't it take so long to feed all your fish, my person killed one of his. This one is different cause your stuff actually goes bad in the old one it didn't. It's also harder cause in the sims 2 you could run them right down and it didnt really affect them. Now they get a bad mood. But still I love it! I gave up keeping the fish and am now making them into sushi. Those bowls sure do take up alot of room. Dum theres no smart milk or the thinking cap. I haven't even tried the insect catching.
