Most of them are gone this morning. The oscars aren't being as protective as I thought they would be. I stole a couple but don't know if they are good. They are sort of a yellow/light light orange colour. Anyway any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks NC

Alot has happened to our 7ft tank in the last week, I sold and gave away some fish. We emptied it down to about a foot of water and moved it. Noticed yesterday the Black one had a tube slightly sticking out and it was a little grumpy but its always like that. Anyway I vacuumed them out yesterday and filled in their hole. They spent the next day digging it again and the white one had a tube out. Never had them both have tubes out at the same time. Just walked to the tank about an hour ago to find eggs in their "nest". They are still going through the motions but I think the majority of the eggs are laid. The white one is the female. I'm so excited! Won't get too excited I know their chances aren't good in the community tank and I don't know for certain the Black one is a male until I see wrigglers. But Wow after all this time! I knew they liked each other as we have had oscars before and they hated each other. So yay!! I would like to try to raise the fry if it gets that far. But anyway a couple of pics

If fed enough they will spawn as often as every week or two so don't stress if they eat them this time. There will be others.

I agree don't blame the drugs. Drugs don't go on trial people do. If we blame the drugs that will be their defence in court, the drugs made me do it. What a load of stuff! Even if they were high they knew what they were doing. I agree with BK alcohol can be just as bad. I do feel for the family not having their loved one come home at the end of the day, thats terrible for anyone to go through especially kids. My condolences to the family and friends affected by this tragedy.

I agree cover the tank. I have 5 cats they used to drink out of the tank but none caught my fish. Although the fish were really friendly and used to come when they were drinking. I don't think a chinese takeaway would pay for a cat, why pay when theres lots of strays. I don't think you are allowed cats on boats anymore, I'm pretty sure your not allowed dogs for health reasons (may contaminate the fish). I can't imagine a fancy goldfish jumping out but still stranger things have happened. I wouldn't even think a goldfish would be tasty but then I'm not a cat. Probably just loves the thrill of the catch. Cover the tank or buy cheaper fish

As soon as I think cats are old enough out goes the litter tray, only comes back when someone is sick. I got given a kitten a few weeks ago that had been taught to go in potting mix (its cheaper than litter and they are too lazy to dig their own dirt). I told them it was the worse thing they could do and they would never be able to stop it going in their plants! I had to try and keep her away from all the house plants. Have since found her a new home where she doesnt have to step foot out the door tray and kitty litter forever.

Yip, I'd also say thats why they did it. My little girl Jaz is 3 and she loves horses. Theres one we drive past on the way to kindy and she always tells me we have to get her horse back. I can't believe they did that and get no punishment, it seems totally unfair. Especially after all your worrying and the personal expense to fix the fence. I would be finding their parents and asking for financial help fixing the fence. No wonder theres so much crime now when the police take such a laid back attitude, they need to be taught a lesson - stealing is unacceptable! Sounds like they were more concerned with you and ownership than the girls. How many people ring a police station a day and say their pony is gone? Sounds very ridiculous and yes I would also be very angry at the police.

We had angel fish that looked like it had a stroke once. Poor old girl started only using one side fin if any and would just glide around randomly, her body was curved to the right I think. I left her as long as I could a few weeks I think before I did the same thing the other fish had started eating her fins.

Im not sure but I would go with our normal seasons and when its back to summer they can go back inside or stay in the shed if you want. I understand winter is a natural rest period for goldfish and if you keep them warm all the time they burn out so to say and have shorter lifespans. How warm were they inside? Goldfish breed over 18 or so degrees celsius I think if it was colder than that inside they were probably alright. Chances are if you have males, females and feed properly they were probably breeding already if big enough. Hope that helps, NC

I told my partner not to start the generator they could grow an imagination but after 2 hours of fighting I was so sick of it and we were bored. Yea the water looks horrible certainly changes the picturesque Mangonui and Doubtless Bay, would feel sorry for any tourists on the buses that go to Cape Reinga. Doesn't look like the postcards at all! Although I bet the view at Cape Reinga with the clash of the tides would be great!

Hopefully we'll get a full day with power today. Ours went out at about 5am apparently , we knew because our youngest woke up crying when it was pitch black. Our house is so quiet without all the tanks going you can hear everything! I think our power was back by about 2pm but then it went out again at 8pm and back at 10pm. Think the later blackout must have been planned to do repairs as it was exactly 8pm it went and exactly 10 it came back and our mate 5 minutes up the road had power. She text me and said they had just drove past the man who turned ours off. We have a little tiny generator just enough to run the tv, sky and phone. So it keeps us and the kids entertained. Sounded bad though from what I heard no power in Kaitaia or anywhere up here. My partner got called yesterday afternoon to help the boss put the bigger boat (20m) on a mooring as it was just getting smashed at the wharf. It was wicked to watch the waves crashing into the shore. I made a friend get out and move a rock off the road and just then a big wave came and he got soaked, he timed it perfectly and got another soaking getting back in the car so that made me laugh not him though. The waves were crashing all along there from the fish shop to the dingy ramp, but of course my camera run out of batteries before I could get the great pic. I think if you had been in the fish shop today you would have got wet feet.

i got no pics just got a new computer yesterday after Noel Leeming took 9weeks to fix mine then the courier borke it so after 6weeks of waiting for the courier to fix it now Noel just gave me another but I don't have my hard drive :evil: so no pics unfortunately. But my mini foxy jack russell is called puppy because i couldnt think of anything and didn't like any suggestions. My little mini pinscher I posted in the last dog/puppy thread has sice been hit by a car so gone but his name was Killer named because he so wasnt and then our pitty is called beastie cause she was just that as a puppy!

Hopefully yip, my friend is getting quite a shock as her old bird was a female and now they have a boy who is being as noisy as he can! I hope to get mine on monday I might even end up with her as the other girl is similar to Vikki's old one so she likes her. Maybe a good thing if she is young.

From an avairy, meant to be 3-4months old

My friends cockatiel flew away and she wanted a new one. Seen some for $20 rung up we were meant to get one and they gave us three. From what I can tell theres 2 girls and a boy (meant to be about 3-4months old). they are all in the same cage which is probably 3ftx2-3ft and about 1ft high. One of the girls is for me but I'll be buying a bigger or another cage at least before I get her. But one of the female birds is sitting on the bottom rocking from side to side. Does anyone have any ideas? I'm thinking the stress of the change. It looked quite not good to watch I'm quite worried. They have thought maybe egg laying but from what I read online I don't know. Aparently the other female had a peck at her. Help please! Thanks NC

Thanks Whetu that would be awesome if you asked her. I would have to find a box and stuff or if anyone down there has a polybox and bag I could reimburse them for. Or yea if someone wanted to do the deal for me and send them up that would be great too. I just seen some on the evil auction site and I want them so bad but they won't ship and with nowadays fuel prices I can't just drive down to pick up as they suggested. I have the two Snookie and DannyBanks had and they are great. Had thought I would never see anymore, I had never seen them before I got these ones. I thought ours were both males but after seeing their pictures they are both girls. So if anyone can help at all with transport please reply or even if you know something about them and want to share or have seen some. Please! Thanks NC

This topic could go on forever! We don't smoke but most of our frineds do in fact thinking about it i only have one smoke free friend. No smoking in public places is good but a drop in the bucket really. Our cars are smelly but we don't give two hoots about the person walking down the road breathing that in. The air is polluted without the smoke. You can't force a nation to be healthy. We all do things that are bad for us whether we realise it or not looking at my computer monitor is probably bad for me same with typing with message (i might get rsi). I don't think theres many things you can do which don't pose a risk. As long as my smokers friends are happy being smelly and wasting their money then its all good it ain't me. I have my own addictions so I can't poke fun at theirs. You never know when life will end for you if smoking makes you happy I'd rather you did it than make our lives miserable by not smoking.

I have done some water changes since I starting losing them but just doesnt seem to be helping. Im chuffed I have had them for so long, they even bred for me that was a few months ago now was wondering if they were breeding I just didnt know because they were always over the back and in caves in the log. I would love to be able to do weekly water changes but in summer water is about $250 a truck load which about half fills our water tank. I have had them for about 5 years now I think and I would say during that time their tank was always acidic (comes like that from the tap) so I think they just got used to it. The spots are about 1mm round I would think.

I have had my whiptails for years got them off Rob in Hamilton. After years of no deaths at all now they are dropping like flys. I have lost my bristlenoses and a couple of corys. At first I thought this was fungus related because I have a few kribs and had seen them pecking at others. Thought the kribs were making wounds and they were getting fungusy (think this is what happened to the bristlenoses trying to share the coconut with the kribs but now not so sure). I had noticed the fish werent themselves but put it down the mean kribs. A couple of days ago I had another couple of whips die and noticed they were really skinny. Tried feeding them up but the other fish are quite aggressive mainly my kribs and stripey barb things. Anyway looked at the last couple of whips just now to see yellowish round spots on them. I have no idea what they are! I know its not whitespot I have never seen anything like it. I havent bought fish for ages but the last thing I bought was some more stripey barbs and I have to say two of them weren't right one always hung in the bubbles and both were skinny (they're gone now). I have checked the ph and its acidic (its never been good but these fish have had that for years and never seemed to mind) and theres no ammonia. Its really making me want to give up as this year I actually vacuumed them out over summer a couple of times and I never normally get to do this for fear of running out of water. But yea the other fish seem alright but I have seen abit of scratching happen. Any help would be great I would hate to lose my last two whips. Thanks in advance NC

Yea we used a paint scraper to do our 7ft worked well, just be careful not to push too hard and take your time.

I put the flake in a tea strainer and just rub it around with my finger falls through just the right size. Ideally one of those smaller meshed ones.

I had this happen with my old nokia 3205 and it turned out the terminal things on the bottom had had a tiny bit of water on it and it shorted it out. You could see it had got wet because it had a little bit of crusty stuff on it. If your going to say you never got it wet neither did I but it must have been rain or sweat or something.But somehow it happened, only way to fix it is to get a new phone. If your with Telecom and have phone insurance it will cost you $90 or something cause technically its your fault cause it got wet. If you take it back and they suspect its been wet they wont replace it unless they're really great! I know how frustating it is when it rings you answer then cant talk! Good luck!

Hyperion, I think when we got him we were told he was pied or cinnamon pied or something similar. My partner wants to clip his wings so we become better friends. Hes chatty and likes to interact but is still abit wary of our hands. I think my 5yr old is to blame for this sometimes he comes home when we have gone out and plays with him we think. We had him out the other night and he was alright but I worry he will get stuck somewhere or fall in the fishtank. He doesnt want to sit with us he wants to fly. So maybe one day we might get him a friend but for now it's just him. I will do as suggested and if we do get another one I will wait for him to be talking really well first. I want to get him another bigger cage before the friend so they can get used to each other first in seperate cages. Thanks for all the answers, it has been awesome to hear from other bird people.
