Hi, thats great to hear I also buy Rock Salt from the supermarket i think it's like $2 for a 1kg bag - alot cheaper than the "tonic salt" from the LFS I edited cause i noticed you're also from palmy - I have found you can only get rock salt from woolworths (i get at the terrace end one) not sure about new world, but pak n save don't sell it.
  12. Bigger the better, they love playing on the ground with foot toys and are very active birds. My Lorie has a HUGE two storied cage my husband made rougly 1.5 metres wide x 1 metre depth x 1.5 metres high
  13. Gosh I used to do that too, We had a round bowl I used to use dish wash liquid to clean it out in thats proberly why we lost quite afew fish - if only I knew then what I know now, the poor wee fishies
  14. I bet you are I feel for ya. i have a heap of baby comets growing out, but maybe abit too small to go with the big guys yet - i do have them in with my big fantails as they too quick for them to catch, you are welcome to afew if you like.

Hi, you will be surprised just how fast salt heals, it's a wonderful thing. i only use salt, whenever my cichlids gets wounded (from fighting) I put some salt in and within afew days they are healed up.
  16. I normally just leaved the hose running slowy for 5 minutes (don't forget it though) every second day in mine - by doing that it overflows all the muck out. As long as you don't change more than say 25% each time you won't need to use ager

    Greetings

Hi & welcome - and I'm sure in no time you'll be a fish daddy, platys breed like rabbits
  19. Oh NO sorry to hear Sandra. And they were lovely fish too Yes i doubt that it was an ammonia problem either - ammonia takes alot longer to build up I would be more leaning towards chlorine poisoning maybe, did you use strees coat - as i do know sometimes when I'm filling buckets the smell of chlorine is really bad. Has anyone (neighbours) been spraying anything near the pond? Any wounds on the fish?
  20. In a 10 litre tank I wouldn't put more than 3 or 4 fish I'd recomend to go with males they are prettier than felmale guppies - you should really stick with the same sex as the tank is to small to have alot and they do bred very fast Also you can get the sponge filters for around $10 at the LFS they are great for guppies and they run on a air pump. I feed my guppies on JBL Novobea, frozen bloodworms, finely crushed tropical flake and they get the odd algae pellet & shrimp pellets now & then
  21. Hi Matt, thanks for the reply. Yep he has a fluro basking lamp, it's on a timer. We have been feeding every other day now - seems to be working, he eats every thing put in front of him. I have been told of the ox heart so I will try him on that we've been measuring his shell once a month usually grows about 1.5cm each month and puts on about 100grams a month. He gets to go walkies outside every now & then - he's not too keen being out of the water for too long though.
  22. Sorry above is meant to be - repeat dose if need - following the steps again. Yea when I had my whitespot outbreak they never told that Malachite green was toxic to catfish and tetras - which I found out after dosing my tank  I lost quite afew BN's.
  23. My Collection: 3x bronze cories 6x peppered cories 4x bristlenoses 7x albino bristlenoses common pleco (25cm) red spot pleco (15cm) L014 goldie pleco (10cm) snowball pleco (8cm) unsure of L#
  24. When I was dosing my tank the guy at wetpet gave these instructions: 1- 1 drop of each per litre - leave for 24hrs 2- 25% waterchange - leave for 24hrs 3- 25% waterchange - leave for 24hrs Repeat again if need to
  25. Ok so our 1 year old snakeneck has kind of gone off his food. He gets a couple of pinches of Sera raffy I gammarus mix in the morning - which he loves and eats all And at night he has 3 small cubes of hothouse turtle food - he usually loves this but lately he will only eat 1.5 cubes Tonight I gave him some minced fish - he ate only half. So I am wondering if I need to feed him every other day now - I know as they get older you don't feed them everyday. But what i want to know is he too young to be skipping days? Any advise is most appricated thanks.
