  1. We'll proberly just have a few drinks and TRY to see in the new year if don't fall asleep by then :-?
  2. Hi, I was going to ask if you've done a vaccum I don't really know to much about plants but I don't think they produce ammonia, but like i said I don't really know - maybe someone else may know about that I would proberly leave it till tomorrow - not much more you can do
  3. Hi, no the light wouldn't have anything to do with it. Ammonia is caused by the fish waste and uneaten foods. I really think it is just abit high because of overfeeding - so just cut back on the food and more water changes and you should be all good
  4. It shouldn't matter to much as long as you didn't clean your filter aswell I know all to well what it's like when your tank goes out of whack, very fustrating especially when alls been well for so long then all of a sudden things start going wrong. All i can think of have you added anything new in there, like any new fish - that may have caused the filter to overload
  5. Hi Aaron, Yes i think it'll be a good idea to cut right back on feeding - I know it's easy to overfeed, thats my biggest problem aswell. But I strongly advise you do daily waterchanges even if it's only 20% untill the ammonia levels show 0 again. And the sponge filters are excellent to use when you have fry as it's also a good food source for the babies. Good luck and i hope things work them self out in your tank
  6. Yea he/she is cool, we got the snowball pleco aswell but had to separate them the goldie is quite aggresive .. but quite happy in by itself with some africans
  7. Oh WOW the goldie is just like ours Phoenix we got ours from Animates palmy afew weeks ago
  8. Hi Aaron, I agree with Imsmith here, you will need to do more water changes - the smaller the tank the dirtier it gets quicker. 50% it's that much thats only 25 litres each time - I'm sure an extra bucket isn't to hard to take out. And i don't think a bigger filter will help IMO 1200ltr maybe to big for such a small tank.
  9. Welcome Nora & Kim, you'll proberly find most people on here also suffer from extreme MTS
  10. Hi danilada, I have one and they are wonderful birds extremely playful and enjoyable to watch playing around on there backs etc They love foot toys and also love water so baths are a must, depending on the time you give them they are also good talkers, mine says the odd word and even afew swear words But yes they are very messy and very very loud if you don't give them enough attention .. you can hear my birdie from standing right at the back on my yard  and he lives inside
  11. That maybe is a black skirt tetra (black widow) lovely peaceful fish. I have green barbs and tiger barbs in with my widows and they all get on very well. But i know you can get the long finned black widow which will most proberly get fin nipped by the barbs. Any fish with flowing fins will surely be a target by the barbs.

    Discus tankmates

Thanks all for comments and suggestions. Got my lovely 3 discus last Thursday and happily living in a planted tank with 4 peppered cories and 7 albino BN's, there seems to be no aggression so far so good. The cories seem to be a very good addition with cleaning up the eaten food. I will have to post some pictures of them.
  13. Also when you do clean the filter wool, make sure you only rinse it in aquarium water and NOT tap water. i would also put a little salt in the tank - whenever my fantails are looking alittle down I chuck some rock salt in. My tank is 250 litres and I usually put 2 good handfuls in. And I would keep up with daily water changes till your tank sorts itself out .. good luck

Oh i see - best not to get it a friend then. It actually is quite a placid krib, but in saying that - I have a marble zebra that was such a shy timid thing then when i put it in my big african tank it total changed and is now 2rd in charge of the tank ... lol no boby messes with it

    Discus tankmates

Well they are cichlids after all but yea my krib is only a wee thing so proberly be ok with them, I think i'll just keep a good eye on them and make sure they are all getting on fine and dandy I'm actually trying to search the net to see how big kribs grow to, anyone know? I just saw a auction that said they grow to 12cm I thought they only grow to around 6 -7cm

Hey ryan .. the krib is the one I got off you, do you have any idea what it is? I kinda think it's a girl, but not sure - I'm trying to get a mate for it, he seems alittle lonely now that i've put all the little cichlids in with the BIG guys ... lol I'm too scared to put him in the big tank incase he gets eaten :-? so I'm thinking of putting it in the discus tank

    Fish dying????

Thanks caryl, yes the guy at the lfs didn't think it was the heater causing the deaths I guess i just want to convince myself that it was the heater and not the bircardi doing it - so I think i have my culprit

    Discus tankmates

I'm getting 3 discus for xmas, well getting them this week sometime I just want to know what tank mates are best for these guys they are only 50mm so still only bubbas. I was hoping to have albino BN's, platies and a krib? Platties aren't a must as the are in the tank that the discus are going in, they can come out no big deal with them Many thanks

    Fish dying????

I tell you from the start - About a month ago i was having problems in my community tank with what I thought was white spot, but now i don't seem to think it was, so far in total I have had 9 bristlenoses, swordtails, platies, mollies all up and die on me. After close observation I thought maybe it was my bricardi harassing the poor wee fishes - bircardi is not in there now, been taken out - and have had no fish die since. However, while i was in my tank (well hand in there ) i got an electric shock - the heater dial has always been really tight to turn, when we took the heater out the seal was very lose, took it back to the LFS and they kindly replaced it with a new one - thankfully still under warrenty Ok so my problem is, who thinks that it may have been the heater that caused the fish to die? or was it the bircardi? There was no signs of sick fish apart from at the start when I thought it was white spot and treated the tank for it .. but 2 weeks later fish kept droping dead with no signs of illness. And now since bircardi is gone it's been 1 week with no dead fish. Hope this all make sense I'm just at my wits end to know why they are dying. .. thanks to anyone that maybe able to shed some light on this situation. I guess i will just have to see if more fish die - since a new heater is in and no bircardis.
  25. If you kept it in an adjacent room - i doubt it will harm your babies just keep the lids on your tank and it should be fine. Luckily I don't need to use flyspray my crazy dog is an excellent fly catcher  If I didn't love her so much, i'd let you borrow her
