  1. I was following a car today that slowed down and stopped at a green light..... not sure if distracted, colour blind or just an eejit. A blast from my car horn set them in motion again though.
  2. Agree, I have my heaters set for 26 on one tank and at 28 degrees, one of the heater's was still going full-blast. My goldie tank is about 22 - got to a high of 24 this Summer, but then I am in Wgtn
  3. It depends on the temp the heater is set for, which determines if it's warm enough. It may be warm enough for fish at 23 degrees instead of 28. So if it's 23 in your area, the heater won't turn on. If the temp is 28 in your area, the heater won't turn on - but is 28 too hot for the fish? Likewise, it's never overly hot in Wgtn in Summer - high of 24 degrees, so if my tanks are set for hotter than that, the heaters are running all the time regardless - but is that temp too hot for my fish? That's the question
  4. What time of year was it when the fish were laying at the bottom of the tank - Summer or Winter? The author of the article didn't say to never heat the tanks, but that perhaps we make them too hot for the conditions that are naturally suited too. As david pointed out - it can't be taken as blanket advice for all tropical fish. Some fish are used to warmer climates than others so know your fish to know what temps they prefer. But it seems that we tend to give them a blanket temp when in our tanks regardless.
  5. "You better dance to disco if you don't like rock" - no idea who sings this. :dno: The version I'm listening to is faster though :fshi:
  6. Interesting article posted by FNZAS on FB: http://www.seriouslyfish.com/whaddaya-mean-too-hot/ I was running one of my tanks "too cold" as the thermometer was giving an inaccurate reading. So instead of 25 as I thought, it was closer to 21. But my fish seemed fine, and this was for quite a few months. Thoughts? :spop:

Poor thing is going to have identity issues if you keep changing her name :slfg: Torties can be quite feisty. Mine had some serious tortietude, she would hide under things and whack you as you'd go past - and she'd look at you like it was your fault! If one of my other cat's was grooming itself, she'd sneak up behind it and sit there waiting with a paw raised. When the other cat stopped cleaning and looked around, it would get a big smack across the face. She was a little ratbag. I have another tank leak :an!gry I can't figure out where the leak is coming from so will have to dismantle the tank to see what's what. Lucky I finished my job yesterday so have the time to do it today.

Tortoiseshell - and she is way cute  FYI - torties are generally always female, and gingers are generally always male.
  9. :gpo2: It may have been expensive, but the rewards sounds more than money can buy. I'd love to see some pics

:rolfl: (why do we have two of these in the smilie list?) Anyway, I've had: 2x G&T and 3x vinos and still going strong
  11. This is James: I no longer have that tank - it sprang a leak and is now used as a pot plant holder. This is Cameo (and one of my first tanks which I still have but not using): She's since developed diabetes so had to be put down So now it's just James.
  12. I'm the same, I'm right handed but also prefer my left for a lot of things. My son is right handed but left-footed - he kicks a ball with his left foot.
  13. That's a line in a Nirvana song: "It's ok to eat fish, cos fish don't have any feelings" We recognise facial expressions and/or sounds for distress. Fish don't "seem" to depict either, hence the assumption. Still concerned about the goldfish at my gym but they "look healthy" so what can you do? :fshi:
  14. Isn't Borneo Sucker and Butterfly Loach the same thing? Anyway, I had some in my tropical tank with good flow but lost the lot (got too hot for them I think). So bought some cold water ones and put them in with the goldies and these ones are better - a lot more active. I have a bubble wall along the back wall and internal filter that stirs the surface of the water around. I have a large piece of slate leaning over the bubble wall - they seem to like this set up  They don't hang around constantly where the water flow is though - they're happy to move around all over the tank.
  15. The guy who takes care of the Live Environments tanks in Wgtn drowns them. When I found that out I took some off his hands - he was going to kill them as they weren't pretty enough for display tanks - I still have them today :f77:

    Fluval FX5

Blardy thing has stopped again :env: I have an airline on stand-by and plugged that in so the fish can breathe at least until this weekend when I have the time to investigate what's what, THIS time!

Raining in Welly, means it's a good day to park up in front of the box :spop: ...or do some tomb raiding.
  18. I'd introduced a new female filled with eggs - it created quite a stir :fshi: They've now settled down now the fuss is over.
  19. How many guppies and what is used for filtratation? 34L sounds a bit small - what are the tank measurements? What are they being fed?
  20. x3 - sorry, it looks like it's been in a crash and repaired. :fshi:
  21. Send the uneaten ones my way :bggrn:
  22. I think I underestimated the size of my tank and didn't dose enough with Furan2, which is why it didn't work. However, I put in the correct amount of blue meth and it's working well - the eye is nearly back to normal :dnc1:
  23. Shame, I like Angels - particularly black ones. Why are you feeding angels to your big fish? :fshi: Oooo, new smilies! :bggrn:
