  1. Lol, you guys are two of a kind. Puffin out your chests is more like it!
  2. I think I will go with the L018, it is the one I have been coveting in P44's tank and I think it will look great against the plants. Thinking about getting a pair, is there any way to sex them?
  3. Just in case some of you don't look in the club section, I thought I would post this link: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=46149 Come along for a fun social evening with other fishy people this Friday. All welcome!
  4. LOL, he's your idol, I just know it.
  5. If you are really keen - and it sounds like you are considering the valuable fish you have chosen - my recommendation would be to get another new tank set up just for them. Get a bigger tank than you think you will need with lots of floor space and carry out fishless cycling on a very good high flow filter. Be absolutely fastidious by keeping the sick tank and all equipment separate from the new tank. Considering the value of these fish, I would keep them on their own, or carry out a 3 month quarantine and antiparasitic treatments on any new fish you wish to add to that tank. Your zebras will be spectacular fish all on their own and if you are careful you can at least be assured that you are not introducing a disease that could kill them unnecessarily.
  6. Totally off topic, but having a song stuck in your head is called having an 'earworm.' (useless fact but one that you are guaranteed to remember the next time you have a song stuck in your head  )
  7. Remember, enriched substrates will generally need to be renewed when they are spent and this means tearing down the tank and removing the spent substrate. You will also need to keep on top of water changes with enriched substrates so there is not an excess of nutrients building up in the water column. If you aren't having lots of root feeders, why have enriched substrates though? It might be better to just use root tabs under the plants that need it.
  8. If it were me, I would not put those new fish in or near any of the fish who have been in the sick tank. If the disease is viral, it might lie latent for a while before rearing its ugly head again. Actually, it could be any number of other diseases bacterial or parasitic as well. Frankly, two months is potentially not enough time to ensure that the illness is not spreading.
  9. Taste or not, if it fits in their mouth, they will eat it. :-?
  10. Looking very good. That aromatica looks stunning as does the lotus. Well done.
  11. Speaking form recent experience, take care with tiny fish and the filter or you could see most of them disappear overnight (seriously, those mozzie rasboaras are so small I had 5 get sucked into a nano filter only hours after getting them last week :-? ).
  12. Don't worry, it will be ready. It will make a nice snack after the cake (might be best not to eat lunch that day).
  13. Cake............ :bounce: You are welcome to come to my house to use my oven. Payment will be taken in the form of delicious creations.

    Hello!

Glad to have you join us. Welcome.
  15. Yeah, I guess I didn't mean that - more like wondering how often are they seen in shops. Nevermind, I will plan on ordering one in.
  16. Hmmm, Googling "pardalis" sure comes up with some interesting images. Wouldn't mind any of those! Thanks for the tip P44. I kinda hesitate to order one in, I really wanted to see it before I commit in order to make sure it is coloured well and is potentially outgoing. Is that too much to ask?
  17. Cheers guys. I am leaning toward the gold nugget - would have liked a choc zebra but I already have a group of Botia histronica so the polka dots of the nugget might provide more contrast between them. If anyone sees one with lots of yellow on the fins, let me know, I am waiting to find the perfect specimen.
  18. Try adding some fast growing floating or stem plants. They will block the light from the algae while increasing the plant biomass and thus reduce available nutrients in the water column (outcompeting the algae). Keep up the CO2 and water changes and try to reduce the overall wattage of the lights (if you have two tubes, only turn on one). This type of algae won't dissapear but it will hopefully stop growing. You will then need to manually remove what you can see, nasty stuff. It may take 2 weeks to show improvement and when you do gradually increase the photo period over two weeks and then increase the wattage. Alternatively, you can lower the water level and get the plants established emersed before you raise the water level. That will definitely eliminate your algae problems!
  19. +1 I love my EOS 40D - it does great macro - but I am wishing it had HD video now.
  20. The Eheim Pickup range internal filters are dead quiet and are star performers. I have several tanks running these in different sizes and there is virtually no sound at all. However, I have had many of the canisters mentioned above and truthfully most of them are no louder than a gentle hum. The worst noise comes from air in the filter or excess surface agitation and both of these situations can be avoided with most filters.
