make sure you fill the cannister filter right to the top, give it a little wobble to get rid of most of the air bubbles. connect all the pipes, connect the filter, and suck on the outlet pipe till you hear the filter sound like it is going, stop sucking. If you are lucky you may have got a little black ball with the Fluvals which does the sucking for you. When the 03 start running they are sweet. Have fun.

The reason for my comment is that there are a number of Killies that can survive in small pools of water in the wilds of Africa. I have my killies in a tank that has the following measurements 300mm (L) x 150mm (H) x 150mm (W) = 7 litres. I put in a small box filter in a corner. Put in some indian fern a spawning mop for the Mop spawning Killies nothing on the bottom for easy cleaning. If your room is generally warm then there is also no need for a heater. There is room in there for at least a trio of killies (2 females and 1 Male) + any babies that would swim at the top in amongst the indian fern roots. simple
