  1. Water changes. Lots and lots of water changes. Or, just get used to the nice colour
  2. Oh is that who did your tanks? They're great tanks!
  3. My worst thing with goldfish was getting home one day and finding my 2 goldfish in my cats bowls. My cats had picked them up from their tank, and taken them to their bowls to eat them. 1 was long gone, but the other looked intact. Dry, but like a fish. I put it back in the tank, and after a few mins it started swimming. It probably would have survived too, but I medicated it to death. I got 2 more, and a lid for the tank.
  4. Pet shops should at least make an effort to have both the common name and L number. I'm sure it would make it easier for everyone so everyone knows where they stand with it.

    breeding kribs

I did the same with lionhead cichlid babies. They fell through the gaps in the stones, and I'd just syphon them out. They survived for a few weeks with hungry puffers.
  6. You know what would be awesome? A step by step photo journal on how to do this. I really need to make a few, and your experiences making them would be really helpful :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

    who needs a couch?

Its almost the witching hour, and that's when everything turns to poo. You know, major leaks, pH issues, heaters breaking. It's good to be on top of it.
  8. It must be acting as an aerial. Weird!
  9. Ah, I have that problem too. It's a major problem with sky. It happens because the light is on the same wavelength as the remote. It's ugly, but tape a toilet paper roll to the incoming sensor on your TV and it'll stop it. Energy saver light bulbs do it too,
  10. Metro is for worms, and wasting like that sounds like worms. Try some droncit for worming. It's a dog wormer. Soak their food in it. If they don't have worms, probably wont do too much damage.
  11. Yeah, some tropicals can stand high temps, I've had guppies up to 34deg with no probs, but I guess there are some out there who are more low range tropical.
  12. transcriptus, that's what they are. Animates down here has a pair and a whole lot of babies in a tank, I thought they looked really cool. I love these tanks guys, keep 'em coming. My fish always seem to be hiding, so I figure the more rockwork the better to help them get a bit more secure.
  13. I've watched my angels spawn hundreds of times I thought I was blind because I couldn't see anything visible. I have angel babies right now though, and he's the only male I have. When he was passing over him, did his bits look pointed, or rounded like the female laying?
  14. Aw, I'm sorry for your fish! I'd only be concerned about bring the temp down slowly, you don't want to cause them more shock by dropping the temp quickly.
  15. Ahhhh!!! The fish in the second photo at the bottom (black and white one)....what is it?
  16. Keep a look at it for a period of a couple of weeks. If his/her tummy swells even if she hasn't just eaten, it's a girl. Girls often set each other off to lay. When you say he's not doing his thing, do the eggs turn white, or just get eaten?
  17. Oh...thats a good point. I kinda just assume everyone keeps their fish alone. In saying that, my angels did really well raising fry in a community tank. They got about 2 weeks past free swimming, then I accidently threw most of them out in a w/c
  18. Def cory eggs. They lay on top of or under things, discus tend to lay on up and down surfaces. If you wanna hatch the eggs, take them out (use a credit card to scrape them off and sick them on the side of the container) and put them in an icecream container floating in your tank with an airstone and some meth blue. They'll hatch in 48ish hrs. Feed the babies 3 days after they hatch with micros and decaps. If they last to 30 days, you're pretty much in the clear. Good luck!!
  19. If we're taking bets, I'm gonna say male. Only cuz it's skinny, doesn't look like it's holding eggs. If he/she doesn't have a friend in there, eggs probably won't be there.
  20. If you take a look through this thread you'll find the answers to those qs

    who needs a couch?

Gosh, I could never get rid of my bf. Who would help me do water changes at 2 in he morning?
  22. This is true to some extent, but there's also only so many of us here who are interested in fish. We're never going to have the massive market, because all in all, probably only 100,000 people have more than 3 - 4 fish in NZ. In other markets, there are potentially millions of people who keep lots of fish.

    who needs a couch?

Hmmm...this reminds me of a guy on another forum who broke up with his GF, sold his double bed and bought a single bunk bed so he could fit more tanks underneath the bed...
  24. That's awesome!!!! They're pretty hardy, I feed them courgette and other veges, and also put in normal sinking pellets and shrimp pellets for them. Once you get them to 30 days, you're pretty much good to go!
