  1. Go to the craft shop and ask for plastic canvas stuff. It's plastic with holes in it that people do...sewing or whatever they do in. It's pretty sturdy, and would be perfect.
  2. Doubt it. Most of those fish grow big, and need lots of space and currents and all those things.
  3. Lol, wow, thats for the long awaited update! 3 years :bounce:
  4. That's right about the bends thing, but usually they get them on their sides where their hard scaly back meets their belly. Could it be that he's sticking his whiskers out? Kinda like what a BN does if you catch it in a net? Sometimes they do it only on 1 side.
  5. Do you mean like a factory or a home aquarium?
  6. Exactly. The heaters only need to heat up to a bit higher than the water temp, and as they heat up, most of the heat moves to the water and heats it.
  7. Ummm...So do they have any evidence that there was damage to the tank cause by blunt force impact? If you had for some insane reason been vacumming uber early in the morning, there would be a starting point for the crack - I'm sure Barrie will be able to explain this better, he's our glass man. Good luck.

    So.....T5s are better?

How do they go for power usage vs T5s?
  11. I breed them in my 3 ft. Well, not so much as breed, but feed. The daddy goes into his home, then babies appear. About 4 days after he comes out of his home, he goes back in and has more babies. I've had 4 sets of fry since March 18, after 2 years of no babies, no matter how hard I breed them. I don't take the babies out, except ones I get rid of.
  12. Yeah, they said it had closed, and there's 1 hippo tang left in the store I'll get them to go over to Palmy if they want anything I don't have lots of. Thanks for the help, people
  13. On hold for now, I decided that the puffs had been growing fast enough to move to the big tank, so I've been putting all my energy into that. Hopefully once I've got them sorted I can get rid of 1 FW tank and get started on getting a beardie
  14. They live on st johns hill.
  15. Thanks guys. Turns out they want tetras. Sigh, typical. My cousin is 10, so my aunt and uncle are 'helping'. The tank is an elite 60 (60litres), so malawi's aren't really suitable. What do you guys do to make the water better? Do you add lots of peat and driftwood?

    Who's the light bulb man?
  17. I'm helping my cousin set up a tank in wanganui and am interested to know what the pH of tapwater is like there? Hard/soft water?? Thanks
  18. I went to the 10am service with my girl guides. We had a sleepover last night with 40 girls

This isn't such a technical question as a practical one - where, apart from pet stores, can you buy these lights? Pref. in Welly where I can pick them up. Once I've decided what I'm getting, I'd rather not pay $50 in postage...
  20. Get a really big net, one that only just fits in your breeding tank. They're a PITA to catch.
  21. We got a $600 bill last month, but other than that, my 7 tanks use about $100 a month. The 2 tiny tanks (20L) use the most, because they loose the most heat. A good way to keep them warm is put a sheet of polystyrene over the top glass at night. The fish don't mind (don't put it on the water of course) and it means the heaters don't turn on overnight.

Also, PMs probably aren't the best way to do this, cuz we can't see what others have suggested, so you'll likely get 10 people suggesting the same thing, which will clog your inbox pretty quick (it can only hold 10 messages). Before suggesting anything, we need the informations aquatopia has already asked
  23. Wow, I love yellow labs, but those white ones are beautiful too. It thought it was the colour I liked, but I guess its the proportionality.
  24. Wow, that is a good offer. Signed up and have started reading my first copy.
  25. Also, by cleaning the filter all the time, you're knocking out the good bacteria in the tank. I'd personally only use a 380 for something like tetras; small fish with a small bioload.
