  1. i would now like to retract my previous comment on this thread. if you get a batch of eggs out of these two it's not natural.
  2. did some one steal these fish off you?
  3. sounds like common courting behaviour among all ciclids, ive heard it called lip locking before, if you want to breed them i would say your off to a good start.
  4. yeah it might not have been the new fish. Very possible. Sorry about your fish. Plants are very rewarding. Or keep more than one tank then if you are experiencing problems with one tank you can enjoy the success' of the other:)
  5. care to name the shop purchased from and their response to the claim their fish have caused catastrophic devastation on your healthy system? some stores really need to be held accountable for selling fish that are carrying diseases. Sorry for your losses, it happens all too often from the sounds of things. so their must be a lot of stores doing it often. i think there should be some retribution from the store in some instances, whether it be treatment product, replenishing stock losses...
  6. good stuff now you only have to buddy buddy up to a few people to get along. lol But seriously you should save all that extra income instead of spending it on all the stuff you want to do. (yeah right) enjoy it bud, sounds like you earnt it
  7. yeah go for it with the brine shrimp eh they are really small and fish just love them to bits. I would think after 5 days since hatching they will be fine. As a rule id say as soon as they are free swimming. But this is probably up for contestment (sp.).
  8. at a guess 60-90, good on ya!!! now you just have to not kill them. lol. get brine shrimp going. if you can hatch the shrimp in sea water, i ve found it has a much higher success rate. i would also suggest that you start to add fresh distilled water gradually over the next 3-5 days to completely replace the water they are in. i dont use meth blue, but i think that its just to keep the eggs from rotting? i dont think it will be of any benefit to the fish from here on in, but i may be wrong. i have heard that the active ingredient in meth blue is a carcenagenic (sp.) causes cancer, and is heavily regulated in the States, so i would be careful not to get it directly on the skin. that being said i think it is one thing most fish breeders swear by.
  9. hey great looking set up and especially the fry tank but i don't understand how it is set up. it looks like the one heater services the whole tank and is running through two compartments. Does it slip in through a hole in the divider? i can see the use of stone along the bottom of the dividers, so there must be a gap in there to help with circulation. However how do ensure the fry small enough to fit in the caps don't do so and get eaten for their effort?
  10. yeah might head down and have a talksee to the guys at the local Switched on Gardner about the reflector and reconfigure the bulbs i think the Sera bulb should probably go in the middle.
  11. Yeah the tank has three fixed 30watt lights in the hood, which a retailer has told me you can't do much about apart from using the best bulbs available, or going with my current lighting fixtures. Did notice that the light cover is grubby so im gona give it a good clean this avo but don't think that its going to do the trick.
  12. The specs are 99x47x60cm, this is an Aqua One product.
  13. Looking for help. I have an Ar980 tank that is heavily planted, it occasionally has diy Co2, as well as a sera 30 watt bulb and 2x 30 watt power glo bulbs, will this be sufficient lighting to help plants such as Glosso grow beautifully? Or would you recommend something additional? Have struggled to grow Needle pine, Hair grass in this set up.
  14. yeah thats absolutely no help at all... LOL, anyone want to shed any light on this.
  15. Great looking Clowns!!! seen similar behaviour in Clowns and it is to be noted that they are named Clowns because of there bizarre behaviour. However they look so happy and vigorous that i couldn't say they weren't. Question is what are you going to do??? Do you act on your instinct and devote the considerable amount of time and expense into having an 'every avenue exhausted' attempt to breed these (and in turn write yourself into urban legend), or not. IMO: Go for it!!!!
  16. hi there Natasha, welcome to the forum. Here's rule no one; look after your water, and the fish should be happy.
  17. im sure there are some excellent articles on this forum about it, as well as some threads that had heaps of information about it, try using the search function on the top right hand of this page and see what you come up with.
  18. cheers, thanks for the heads up had to be one of the three. I don't think i could handle another hobby at the moment.
  19. is this a computer, card, or board game?
  20. cool website imsmith, i am with mac and just got ilife 09 running the other day. i would love to get a website going was it that easy eh?
  21. for some reason my hair grass always dies off, currently i have some very short and sparcly sp. planted. What do i need to do? i think the loaches may be chomping on it but not sure. Great looking tanks dude! when you say balance what would you describe as a winning formula?
  22. Hey Rozski, yeah it was a dolphin watching experience called Seafaris, we had dolphins around the boat for 4-5 hours which was really lucky. i heard about the Moko, what a hard case eh? we nearly went camping down there to have a noisy. it amazes me how these are considered food, as though they were any other species. But then again i guess people connect with animals in different ways. Good old Steve Irwin saw love in the cold eyes of the salt water crocodile...
  23. hey good effort with the rock work dude, its a pretty cool set-up, your nearly ready for your first 6footer. Have a look online, do a google image search under Amano, some of these guys are amazing.
  24. they can go for days and days without eating eh. i think this time of year, because of the warmer air temp these guys don't need to eat as much, they are just lazy as, they make cats look like they are training for the Olympics. Check your ph, and Ammonia levels ensure that they are constant and not bad, i have found that this can cause a sulk. if two weeks go by with out a single meal, then i would get worried until then keep the water quality tops, give him a nice hiding place and he should sort himself out.
