  1. i agree totally. but i think there are plenty of very good people out there that have had a smack in their youth.
  2. i dont think i will smack, however i just watched this woman (S--) just turn her back on the result and say she has no respect for the referendum. i have to pay this person to be rude, completely incompetent, and self serving.
  3. The results are out... 87% want the law changed. Well done NZ. I wonder if the person charged with manslaughter of the three year old in Palmerston North even voted? Im not exactly proud of the fact that i pay good money for Sue's paycheck every week.
  4. i cut a small section of plastic tubing (7-8cm) with fitted perfectly over where the flow comes out of the bottom of outtake, i think it was old piece of an under gravel filter. it holds itself in place really well. it didnt slow the flow of water but it removed the splash, almost silent too.
  5. When was the last time a fish died in the tank??? go back and explain to the retailer what happened then report their response back here please.
  6. yeah i was thinking of the plants.

    GH & KH

Im wondering about the need to establish these parameters. I have just got a test kit and tested my tap waters KH, the solution drop is supposed to turn blue. So the first drop went in and stayed yellow. This means that the town supply is less than 1 degree dKH??? or am i doing something wrong? Are these test results common amongst others in Tauranga, Otumoetai???
  8. what about setting up a tank for all your live stock, every last fish??? Treat all fish in there for about two weeks, make sure this tank has got great filtration, heaps of hiding places and no light. With your display tank fishless the parasite will eventually die of starvation, daily vacuum this tank to remove the infant stage of the parasite, as well as treat the tank with salt (warning: the salt can have a detrimental impact on your plants), and as stated increase the temp to 30 degrees (this increases the speed of the life cycle of the parasite). good luck if you move your fish quickly they will still be quite strong, so shouldnt have too much of a negative impact on the fish.
  9. can i please hijack this thread to ask about if people are finding the fx5 isn't removing finer particles properly.
  10. they're territorial when breeding like a toothless chiwawa. Harmless as your guppies will be fine.
  11. the condensation will always follow the easiest way out. The lid does have a drip tray, which moves the condensation toward the back of the lid and back into the tank without mess, this stops water from forming in the trip tray in the first place. But this can fail if the tank is leaning forward. However if you do have a leak and its been going on long enough that could be the reason your floors moving so much!!! i have heard of a slow leak rotting the floor boards underneath a tank causing a near disaster.
  12. i had a similar situation with an AR620 it would only do it when i opened the lid and close it so wasn't much of a problem. There is that foam tape you use to seal doorways, that could do the trick for a cheap price. Maybe your tank is slightly leaning forward so you could check that its level.
  13. yeah its one of those grey areas eh??? ive watched conversations here on the forum where there have been so many conflicting views. Like Mark said a safety factor of 3 would be good. Mines not. Barrie is a glassier i think and can offer some expertise on the subject. i think most tanks are at least 8mm thick and are pretty well put together these days, with nice bracing. Im more worried about the silicon springing a leak. Logic does say the longer your in this hobby the more chance you have of hearing about or experiencing a cracked tank. I know someone who has had this expensive experience. (new carpet material) Since ive been a member of this forum ive been surprised by the number of cracked tanks people have had. On another forum there was this whole debate about whether or not you need to support the base of the tank or you can get away with just supporting the outer edge of it. Does it keep you awake at night???
  14. Can anyone please recommend some excellent pet stores in the Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, or Brisbane.
  15. i read in a tread once it takes like 3 weeks to be sure using your methods, but keep it up you've done a fantastic job. Very inspiring.
  16. lol. Its all good, interesting too.
  17. i agree, but it could be worth going under the house to check there isn't any rot or bora in the floor boards.
  18. yes i quarantine my new fish he ws for about 3 weeks. but he has been community for about two weeks now. these lice have an incubation period of up to 100 days!!! he is now in incubation so will hopefully have been able to stop the likely hood of these things taking hold in my tank. No other fish in this tank have these including my female fighter.
  19. it is sooooo disgusting, doin a google search and fish lice (Argulus) looks pretty likely but becaues i have never experienced this kind of thing before i would love some advice of someone who has. this whole experience has made me get strangely itchy all over...
  20. thats why i love this hobby. everything going well, inspected my new fighter and he appeared to have a couple of translucent bumps in his forehead. Being an inquisitive and caring fishkeeper i caught him and went to touch one of them to get some sort of understanding as to what it is... it swam away, its like a mini crab. that gave me the worst case of the heebetee geebetees ive had in a long time. Please tell me 1 what the heck are these things? 2 how do i destroy them?
  21. i know someone called stretch, hardly had to jump in the line out. sounds like your gona need those long arms too.
  22. im going in half an hour... but only for its sci-fi genre. i am definitely not a treky!
