  1. i always used a small (5cm x 5cm or similar) size of glad wrap - floats on the water and the fish makes a nest under that. maybe that may make a difference....
  2. the 405 is fantastic. if you were in palmy you would be welcome to see how effective it is. infact i just bought another one - just incase, and because of the price difference - it was much cheaper than comparable eheims (even when the eheims were half price.. so were the fluvals.. but ive worked with both filters, and the store i work in uses eheim pro's, but i use fluvals cause i can save my self some money and get the same results if not better). so yeah. if you want a quiet, good, reliable filter that wont bum out on you then go for it. and fluval have a 10 year part retention policy - and most places will simply replace the filter if something does happen to it within warranty. the 405 i have is running on a 200L 4 ft tank, and soon there will be another 405 on that tank. one with bio media and sponges etc, and the other with water additives like bio chem zorb.. etc. etc.... Edit - PS.. having said that... the eheim (forgetting the model) is on sale for 199 down from 400.. .. hope this helps caper.
  3. I did vet for a while, and then equine sciences - when i discovered i was allergic to NZ hay  so now im doing a double major in finance and international business, (4th year this year) and then next year im going to come back for a 5th and do my MBA. oh and,, thanks caper!

  10. spent a lotta time with my hand in the water lol... slowly taught the bunch that the food would only be at the top - and then as they came for food id force them to hand feed. when i saw he wasn't as afraid as the other 11 (now down to 9 i think) i thought i might as well teach him a trick lol. id move my hand slowly away from him and then he would curve in any way to get his food. Aaannnddd 2 years later.... he sits in my hand sometimes when he feels like it. then i feed him and he nibbles on my finger. :bounce:
  11. you will know when all the gold fish in the tank are chasing the living daylights out of her and banging her against any thing and everything. thats when she is laying v small eggs that coincidently get eaten immediately.
  12. the spawn would depend on when the female is ready to go. i think the males just like in most species  are always ready to go. lol
  13. Just thought I'd share a few pics of my favourite clown loach Mr. Wiggles. Had him since he was a baby - had him for 3 years. Ive been trying to teach him to swim upside down when he wants food for about 2 years - and this week he picked it up finally.
  14. Id leave it at 4 if that number works. they could be "pairing up"... that causes aggression toward other fish.
  15. maybe they just dont like each other? personality clash???
