    Newbie here

hi pegwood, and welcome to the forums. lots of us will be meeting this coming Sunday, so do come along; details are in the clubs and meetings section.
  2. surely you're not saying you are a goldfish?  LOL
  3. Don't stock purigen in palmy either let me know if you find any though. those bio chem zorb thing mentioned earlier; they come in pouches in a plastic jar. you fill the jar with water, and cover it for 10 minutes, and wait as the pouch activates. some of them get hot cause of the reaction - and then after 10 mins you put it in your filter.
  4. !!!! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:
  5. if he was stunted because of a small tank (phenotypical trait) - his genes will still be fine, and the offspring should be normal as long as they are also not shoved in a small tank. breed him and see what the kids are like, and then you will know if he carries a gene for bendy fins (highly doubt it) or if its just what happened because of external environmental factors.
  6. Hey guys, are any of you setting up an african tank? I have some shell - coral substrate like thing that may be of use to raise and stabilise pH. "Yworry" of here gave me some a while ago - and since ive used how much i need the rest can be passed on at our next meeting!
  7. I think most of them are pretty darn ugly too. somehow i don't think the fish really care
  8. valentines are pretty good. depends on what you are willing to spend though. they can cost any where from $300 - $2000+
  9. checked to see if photobucket isnt making them larger? size setting should be large - 640 480.?
  10. i like the really dark one! and your sword plant looks sooo happy! :bounce:
  11. play with it. i can be forgiven, lol.. got my last exam tomorrow
  12. AWWWWW!!!! sooooo cute!!!!!!!! i want to pay with it!!!! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:
  13. not really what I wanted to breed. I didn't know males were monogamous.. the females laid pretty well. maybe having only one male in the tank helped? there definitely was only 1 good female pictured, but the male was pretty flirtatious
  14. *ouch. never mind then  i like carbon- being using it for about 10-11 years now.
  15. ok. so read this thoroughly. note the .edu site so i cant be bashed for references. http://www.cee.vt.edu/ewr/environmental/teach/wtprimer/carbon/sketcarb.html also I have noticed a relatively fair correlation between the people that complain about murky unclear water (at work) and those that do not have carbon in the filter (also people who i talk to at work). also there are a lot more sites out there that show the chem reactions that occur with that carbon. very interesting stuff if you like and can understand the whole reaction equation and see how it applies to a tank. :bounce:
  16. blasphemy! carbon is the best thing ever! keeps the water crystal clear. most people WILL have problems cause they dont replace it on time.
  17. the redness is consistent with an ammonia spike. it can happen sometimes after a good gravel vac. Im not saying that was the cause - but it could be an option.
  18. gawd. see what I've done now. I didn't mean to make you cry  sorry.
  19. starve him until he eats colourbits. either that or try hikari.
  20. That's adorable! Isn't it awesome when the wee lille eggs wiggle? Congrats!!!!! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:
  21. so do you guys just turn up with fish and auction them off? or is it pre-arranged?
  22. when did you do the last water change on the tank? sorry for the loss.
