  2. dwarf sag grow slow? really? (and its not very dwarf by the end of it under those lights) got a close up of that plant?
  3. did those bags come in handy? The tanks are looking good as always. That sword you have is most likely novoe zealandae and not pygmy chain - like most NZ natives it needs an incredible amount of light - im trialling it myself.
  4. and i would agree with smidey. 5-6 months MAX depending on how and what you feed them and the water conditions.
  5. yes, they will be fine together. It is a very popular combination. my ghost never ate smaller tetras either, but he used to hand feed until his tummy got fat.
  6. looks good! but will they not be happy wobbling around the base of a barebottom tank?
  7. you can try a marine blue light but i think even pure white light may help. I *think 5000K should have blue spectrum as well.
  8. I usually hatch my own brine shrimp as its more fun that way  if you are having trouble hatching the eggs, use sea water instead.
  9. My old genetics professor told me that there are normally 2 types of behaviours when it comes to rearing offspring. There is a genetic component - so animals know how to breed without being taught, and also a learned component. When an animal has been reared by a parent, it makes a better parent - as judged by the health and survival of its offspring when compared to the opposite. I reckon you should let her hold as normal - and then strip her once the kids are old enough. If she is actually getting weak cause of not eating - she will automatically spit the fry although by that stage, im sure you will have stripped them already. LA is right - Don't fix nature; it aint broken... yet
  10. They do that? I can't decide if its a good thing or not. Im leaning towards not. Gah! too many wannabe business owners out there. Well Stella; if I were you I would get in touch with an Accountant and start from there. The NZ Trade and Enterprise website should also be of some use, and they can even send you a manual or something similar. I have one I used in an old assignment. You don't have to use the big name accountants, as they normally get associates to do work any how and charge about $60-$120 per hour; more when audits for IRD are needed. A financial planner and budgeter would be of use as well - I would have offered assistance to that regards, but my current contract forbids it.
  11. that's actually pretty cheap considering it was 1 shipment.
  12. welcome to my world. "sorry professor, the bird tore up my assignment - see I can prove it (*hands over a plastic bag filled with shredded assignment)".

    Best Cichlid

males do not have ovaries. only females do - that's what makes females females. females do not produce sperm. males have testes or similar and thus produce sperm. if you have eggs - you have a female. if you have eggs and babies from those eggs (viable eggs) - a male has fertilised the eggs. There are no 2 ways about it. Especially since these fish are not hermaphrodites.
  14. oooOOoo! Congrats! :bounce: You must be very excited!
  15. cake? can it be a chocolate one please?

    numbers

go to http://www.planetcatfish.com and do a search there. basically there are many types of the same fish. the L numbers when correct serve as a method to differentiate between them.
  18. I'm 22. now given that I only ever learned English under the Oxford System and had my knuckles whacked every time I made a spelling mistake, I just cannot comprehend it. Many "mistakes" are made deliberately too. grr. i like it when we don't ruin the language.  I can't understand the concept of "whole" English. If you don't teach the whole thing, including spellings and grammar - pupils aren't learning it right.
  19. that is what i am talking about. garbage!
  20. yes, and Lisa Emerson from the school of English at Massey says its perfectly fine to use a comma before the word "and". Its just an old tale that says its wrong to put the comma before it.
  21. The "mistakes" (if they can be called so) in this post are so much more pleasing to the eye than some of the garbage we have to read on here. Caryl I'm only a "wippersnapper" but I'm pretty sure I've done most of the things above!
  22. she is pretty! I have a thing against orange discus, but this one with the blue is really really good!
  23. check to se if the fn or function key has or the function key lock is on.
