  1. So I've tried algae rid and it is not working.- I re-dosed everyday instead of every 3 days. I manually removed a lot of the algae and it seems to have re grown in new places. any other magical remedies?
  2. Interesting. The big panaques (royals and the likes) eat lots of wood. apparently its needed for the digestion, and wood forms an essential part of their diet. Ive seen branches in the wild that have been stripped off the bark. they must like it any how.
  3. maybe they should do this to whales. :-?
  4. Treehuggers. no seriously its tail needs to be fixed.
  5. yeah, it sure is  Im not sure i want to spend $300+ on a proper setup if I have to uproot my tanks every year.
  6. Then he proceeded to tell me ALL about it hahhaaa
  7. I used the 18W ones. I dont use them at home either, but if this algae thing does not go away I may borrow one for a few days.
  8. ok. it works now. I am far too impatient for my own good.
  9. hmm. thanks guys, back to the drawing board for me.
  10. I bought this one. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing ... =261585308 but i think the frit has been installed the wrong way around. is this possible? bubbles enter the diffusor the way they are supposed to be released, but no bubbles come out of it. have tried it on DIY and a pro setup.
  11. Dunno. but im considering another 2 red whiptails. thought about royals, but then it makes more sense to get reds. i also want those ones that phil collis is selling. have not been able to find them on the net though.
  12. Best you take that camera with you KP. Pics needed redracer!
  13. lol. I wish I had a DSLR camera with a macro lens. I would get some awesome shots then.
  14. This is an L002. I blame him for some scratches on the glass. Just thought I'd share. Panaques have teeth so they can eat wood and bark.
  15. yeah. don't worry too much about substrate ferts. though your glosso would be happier and grow faster with them.
  16. what plants are you trying to grow? and the flourish can help remove some types of algae, but not all.
  17. It is so incredibly hard to tell the difference. the one they have is also most likely a male (from the pics i have seen). I am more inclined to say L52 with the ID though.
  18. too much of it and your fish are dead. :-? :-? its one of those last resort options for me. next time ill try that wheat barley thingymagigeedee thing.
  19. 2 leaves came up yesterday. im digging it into the substrate tomorrow :bounce:
  20. yea cover the gap for the initial period.
  21. have a look at the search function on here, using UV as the search term; they are highly effective and I know of several people that use them to keep diseases at bay. I myself use 4 in a commercial environment, to keep fish like neons and clown loaches from getting white spot - common in shops cause of stress and tanks being mucked around with a million times a day, and also in goldfish tanks to keep algae away and another on a display discus tank. they work very well, and are worth the investment, if you really want one.
  22. My 4ft light was $267 for the 4ft hood from animates. the build quality is good and solid. they are easy to clean and look neat. i dunno what else i can say about them. ive been using them for ages now, and no problems so far. just make sure the ones on tm are HO. then again, if you factor cost into the equation - the price of 2 hagen HO units + bulbs opens the avenue of a MH light over your tank. if you have a wooden hood on the tank, don't bother DIY-ing it cause you'll either ruin the hood with modifications and devalue it, and it will be harder to sell if you ever have to.
