  1. +1  those pics are uber awesome, looks like you had a lot of fun! :bounce:
  2. They are still in palmy as far as i know. I think MAF operates independently with its own set of rules, so the paper work involved would be almost the same. I know the headache that will be involved is definitely comparable.
  3. I more wanted microfolia off you in the near future, to cover up any gravel this is visible.
  4. ill keep an eye out for runners. they are currently sitting on about 20-30 JBL balls in the substrate. maybe that has something to do with the colour as well? I do remember ordering some red special and some of the other ones you mentioned, so what ill do is order 1 plant in a week, and see what comes in - that way if i get these again, ill know what they are sold as. The tank actually hasn't matured yet...i think... Its only been running a month or so
  5. yep! and to ron as well. rest assured, if I breed them babies will be free as well to good homes.
  6. $50 and its yours. naah. kidding. ill try hunting for it. and see if i can get some more. from memory it was something like $16 - $20 per plant
  7. wha!!! really? how much? adodge, i like blue discus, brown discus, and checkerboards. that's about it. the orange ones are nice to see but i could not live with them
  8. the boy is away for a while
  9. Thanks! I love how you always come back to post on my threads lol... now all i need are some lovely brilliant blue diamond discus from you hahhaaha. but sadly my pockets are no longer deep as some of these plants do not come cheap
  10. you could treat them with metro / prazi and lots of water changes and good food. I am unsure if they will get their shape back, but it is possible for them to look somewhat normal in a long time for now. you can also use a bird multivitamin drop and add it to the colourbits and feed them that.
  11. give them away and demand your money back. it has been said before but and Oh My God. what on Earth are those!!
  12. he won't be able to see this post for a wee while now.
  13. Your cordifolia (both of them) are straight out of this tank, so I hope you like them. Mine are starting to flower, with 3 flowers coming up. The colour is darker in real life I think you may be right about the barthii, the name sounds about right, but then again I must have read a hundred names before picking these plants up.

    discus help

That depends on how bad the burns are tomorrow. Be sure to keep the temp the same. you don't want them to stress or they will go black and have a typical discus hissy fit. It is possible for the fish to make a complete recovery. use stress coat and some salt as well. not too much salt at this time, just a little to agitate the glands under/in epithelial tissue so it produces more slime. discus milk is the stuff they use to feed their kids, and is secreted when they breed.
  15. yeah, its a real bummer. I used to artificially buffer the water, as its naturally soft here. when i moved the tank, and changed more than 60% of the water, the pH dropped to 5.5 and the fish had a total hissy fit. lost a fair few yellows, sold some on here, and sold all 23 dems that I had. luckily the fish got re-homed really fast so no more died. nothing I did to the water after that made the yellows happy so i had to sell them. it was too frustrating losing them for no good reason, so i decided to go back to plants and catfish etc. people had bets on how long it would be before i went back to a planted tank
  16. The arcuata grows like mad. I just chucked out a whole pile yesterday cause it decided to take over the tank. I was hoping you would be able to tell me what that sword is actually. I have searched a lot, but now im thinking it is a hybrid species of some sort. very very pretty though. if i manage to get my hands on some, ill send you a plant.
  17. this sword plant's leaves should go a dark-purple-back in a few more days. rotala rotundifolia ludwigia arcuata moss on driftwood The other plants include most of the crypts we can get here in NZ, aponogeton undulatus, banana plant, hygrophilia angustifolia, polysperma "sunset" - which im getting rid off tomorrow despite its lovely colour; christmas moss, Limnophila aromatica, echinodorus cordifolia, rubra, ozelot and a whole heap more. The lighing in the tank is 2xT5 HO @ 18000K - 108W 2xT5 HO @ 10000K - 108W Ferts are not really used, but I have JBL balls in the substrate, with a layer of calcium beneath the substrate. I use flourish comprehensive every now and then, and also excel from time to time. CO2 is DIY with a ceramic diffusor - pretty useless at the moment, but im going to add on a second DIY CO2 reactor if/when i get another diffuser.
  18. I have collected quite a few of these over the years, and now that the african tank has been shut down, I've managed to get back some of my old plants, and acquired a few new ones as well. Some of the plants in here need ID'ing so any help will be appreciated. I apologise about the over-exposure, I used my phone camera. cabomba and rotala rotundifolia submersed rotala rotundifolia converting from emersed to submersed
  19. cataract if its a slivery patch. doc will probably prescribe neosporin - its what i would use. it could also be an abrasion. not to worry in 98% of cases.

Yeah, that's a chem burn from too much flourish. Do a massive water change immediately. Do not dose with flourish and add a load of stress coat to the water. if its possible to transfer the fish into 100% new water, do that. This is the first stage. If it progresses, the burns will appear on the fish's sides and the eyes, and then its really advanced, and is a pain to treat.
  22. so they are tang lake cichlids, shell dwellers and available here? I know they are on the wholesale list.
