  1. I wouldn't stock Malawi cichlids in a tank that size. You can however have kribs or go down another route and get some shellies like the ones in last months POTM. They are not expensive at about $40 each retail and are suited to small tanks.
  2. some things should be kept private and not for 3000odd members to see you know...
  3. yikes. that looks painful. It could be the clown knife for sure, especially if he was wiggling his tail like a worm in front of the clowns face. at this stage the biggest concern is the possibility of an infection from the wound, so i would just keep those water changes up and vigilantly monitor the tail for any signs of fluff or infection. add some salt to the water, the ghost won't mind, and I have found melafix highly useful.
  4. omg they are now growing so fast! she is letting the swim around properly now. the mother still supervises them and I have counted 11 babies for sure. They like hanging around in the moss.
  5. nice! its a mini reef! im considering getting back into marine. a tank like that would work.
  6. I don't mean to sound harsh but if you want to know if turtles need the light, I'd suggest a LOT more research. I mean this is a very long term commitment, and after the large tank, filter, lights, heater, UV tube etc you're looking at a rather substantial financial outlay, not to mention the responsibility that comes along with holding a life in your hands, and being accountable for it. I can only hope the store person will let you know how much work is actually involved with keeping any turtle, and provide sufficient advice with regards to the equipment you will need. It is also important to research common ailments and preventative measures, like the need for calcium.
  7. green hair algae is what i call it. does not like flourish.
  8. oh cool! very natural!
  9. Looks great! plants are doing really well!
  10. We have been debating that at the moment. I do not think it is illegal (/ they will catch you for having it) to have in the tank. the council is more concerned with curbing its spread.
  11. Yeah, your method is good, not to mention if he runs around a bit it would exercise his muscles better.
  12. you need to give it time. they will keep eating the eggs, and the the wrigglers. then they will eat the free swimmers until they finally decide to give parenting a go.
  13. Each L of it has a usable surface area of about 450sqm, so you won't need 25L of it, and at $100 for 2L that's a very expensive venture. The eheim stuff is a round ball not cylindrical in shape, a few of them become smaller after like 5 years but its hardly noticeable.
  14. The plant database includes plants that are not here and plants that are illegal. We will look at updating some of the species and pictures in due course.
  15. it is hard to get them to eat pellets but snookie has done it.
  16. their little stumpy legs are the cutest things ever! like dachshunds
  17. A while ago i heard someone say something about red eye puffers being poisonous and researched a lot but didn't find any info to support that. Ive read a lot about nandus nandus as well, and have not read that.
  18. hmm. i think a large borneo tiger would have him as a snack. I wish I had the space for a slightly longer tank.
  19. They are awesome, and If I had a longer tank that my current 2ft ones I would get a heap of them. Ive seen them eat fish that should just not be able to fit in their mouths but somehow do  its amazing to watch them.
  20. cut it down eh... don't throw the roots and leave it be, in a few days you should see a couple of new leaves popping up if the damage was not done to the roots.
  21. sintered glass is the best stuff you can get, hands down. are you talking about eheim substrat pro? Ive been using ine for about 5 years now, and recently bought 2L more for another filter. There is nothing better than it. have a layer of coarse sponge below the media and you'll be sweet.
  22. yeah, i will definitely register them. I just had a look back and have seen it has not been a month yet. No babies have died so there should be more I hope.
