  1. Did you know Darwin was also the founder of a society for tasting new animals unknown to the human palate? The Darwin exhibit at the Museum last year was awesome.
  2. Zev I see what you're getting at, but what is your point? Who has to be responsible here, the finance companies for trying to make a living or the people who are too foolish to manage their money and live outside their means? What ever happened to good old fashioned personal responsibility? The problem is that a lot of younger people have no idea of the concept of being accountable for their actions, and IMO the root cause of that problem is their upbringing, not loan sharks... *edit* and busy-body governments getting involved in supposedly free markets and forcing/encouraging banks to offer mortgages to people who they usually wouldn't (because of their inability to service the debt) only make things worse. Far far worse...
  3. I hear what you're saying Barrie, but when I bought our TV the RRP was $2999, they were advertising it on special for $2500 and said he'd do it a bit cheaper for cash. I got it for $1800 and 12 months interest free.
  4. Sounds like too many bureaucrats to me. Surely we could combine DOC MAF and ERMA and make things a whole lot more efficient...
  5. There's two uses for them, one is reducing algae and the other is killing bacteria. The first is fairly easy, the second requires much stronger UV light with an appropriate flow rate strong enough to turn the tank over often enough but slow enough to give the bacteria enough exposure to the UV. How big is your tank, what kind of filtration are you using?
  6. Foodtown has them quite regularly here... or is that not the kind you're after?
  7. Put a barrel of water outside and wait?

    ideas please

Some medium sized tetras like colombians or congos would look good in a tank that size, try to stick to one species so you get to see more of the schooling behaviour.

    This or that

Dollars!! One big tank or many small ones?
  10. Meh, I'm used to looking at what I cant have, sometimes its nice to dream. Maybe I'll just get some native geckos so I can tease the yanks with photos to get one back for them showing off all their exotics.
  11. And this one and this one and [urlhttp]this one. I doubt theres much the authorities could do about it, would be hard to prove they hadn't been there since ages ago...
  12. Yeah I saw a few posts about NZ geckos on the forum Hans posted, apparently they are in the US, but cost an arm and a leg.
  13. Just because I don't waste enough time on the net already, does anyone know of some good reptile/herp-specific forums, either US or European based?
  14. What about shinglebacks? Are any/many tortoises available there?
  15. Awesome pics! What are the prices like over there, I know their fish are bloody expensive.
  16. Wouldn't the thick poly already make it well insulated??
  17. When I was young and living at home I used to have a 5'x2'x2' with a big noisy sump in my bedroom and got used to it very quickly. So did my girlfriend when she started staying over...
  18. Just give him to me, he'll learn to eat from watching my lot!
