  1. I like rotaries, I just hate the one-eyed, munter, party-pill taking, steinlarger drinking, rota-tattood, burnout loving, honda hating, brainless dropkicks they seem to attract. That plus the fact that drag racing isn't really half as interesting as circuit racing means I'll probably never attend another nationals. The A1GP + powerboats in Taupo would have been my pick if I was going to any motorsport last weekend. I heard PAC were bringing their 6-second MX6, how did that go?
  2. yikes! I guess I am lucky. It didn't stop me from getting the job, so I'm happy.
  3. I just found out as part of a pre-employment medical that I have a Right Bundle Branch Block. Its been cleared by the cardiologist (after nearly $1000 worth of tests) and I'm fit to go. Apparently its the kind of thing, that if its not serious, you would live your whole life not knowing you had it unless you happen to have an ECG.
  4. I think it would be better for the government to stop the mess from happening in the first place by canning the state-sponsored reproduction of the down-and-outs. If you can't afford to raise the child(ren) you already have, then creating more should be a serious offense with serious repercussions...
  5. Are any of your overhanging tanks 60cm high?
  6. People say 3-5 is the minimy\um for clowns, but after watching my group of 25 I think that 10 should be the bare minimum and 20+ is ideal. They range from about 4 to 18cm and all go crazy together over chopped shrimp. You've gotta get some pics up of your group of 50, just wait til I get a bigger loach-specific tank!!
  7. Yep, neither should be sold in the pet trade IMO. They're just one of those fish (arapimas, RTC's, pacus etc) that just shouldn't be commonly available to the general public. (not trying to suggest anything Al, just ranting in general)
  8. Big call. You offering to pay for the new carpet and dead fish if its not?
  9. Is there any reason why you would actually do this? I have honestly never done it in 10 or so years... :-?
  10. I'm just baiting the killie nuts... Even the smaller poly's (senegals are about the only commonly available one) will get too big for that tank, although how soon would depend on the overall dimensions. A senegal, a ctenopoma and an african butterfly fish with a school of congo tetras would make an interesting african-themed tank...
  11. Well it looks like the red belly does stay smaller, my quick searching found they only get to about 90cm, as opposed to 100cm for the blacks.
  12. The bright colours make them easy targets, so they're fun to feed to proper fish.
  13. IIRC they're the same thing. I've never seen a huge "red bellied" pacu, and I've never seen a small "black" one. Just another reason why common names are nonsense and the aquarium hobby should start using Latin names...
  14. More bio media for sure, pumice is cheap and works well. 5-6 times turn over isn't enough if its well stocked and you're feeding loads of meaty foods, but its a good start.
  15. A fire eel will get far too big for a 200L tank, but if you only want it for a year you could possibly sell it on. There are plenty of smaller oddballs, what are the dimensions of the tank?
  16. Last time I went for the medium ones, the 'small' should be called 'tiny' and half of them looked 50/50 weather or not they were going to make it. I might have to stock up, 38 is a good sized pack!
  17. It will need to be a very thick and rigid board! I'm not sure if I'd be willing to risk it, is it a purpose made stand or just a piece of furniture?
  18. I see what you're saying Barrie, but with fish, even at animates prices, the buy one get one free thing usually works out at a pretty good price. I think I need more loaches, 25 is not enough!!
  19. No, that is Acarichthys heckelii. G. altifrons is what everyone incorrectly calls surinamensis.
  20. That tank is screaming out for some Geophagus altifrons and a big school of columbian tetras!
  21. David R

    my reef

Nice, is that in the 6'er?
  22. Why does everyone think discus need planted tanks? Are you going south american, or central, or a mix? aggressive, semi-aggressive or mellow? One large centrepiece or a mix of smaller species?
  23. I'm going to finish off the bag of aro pellets then start him exclusively on massivore (and shrimp). Oh, and anyone worried about fishes bellies swelling needs to find some photos of Gulper Catfish eating... Here's a start: MFK - 3" Gulper eats 8" Leichartdi
  24. The only way I can tell my big ornate is eating it to look for his swollen belly the following morning. I haven't seen it eat in over 18 months! Henward I don't think there's anything wrong with how you feed your fish, but every week or two you should miss a days feeding, just to fast them a bit as they would in the wild. Then they'll attack the food even harder when you give it to them!
