  1. I'll Let you know when I buy it. Lighting Question... My light hood has 3x 150w MH bulbs and 4x 80W 15000K actinic T5s that came with the unit. 1- Will I need to change the MHs to better bulbs than the ones supplied? 2- What K rating T5 bulbs would be good to get? Is it a good idea to have a few at different spectrums? i.e. 2 @ 10,000K and 2 @ 15,000k 3- Do the T5s need to be High Output? I'm thinking no since I have MHs...? or maybe just have two of them HO? I have worked out my light schedule to be: -8am T5s on -11pm MHs on, T5s off -4pm T5s on, MHs off -6pm T5s off (or on for as long as I want to look at the tank) T5s 3hrs in morning. MHs 5hrs morning to afternoon. T5s 2+hrs in evening. Total Photo period 10 hours. Does this sound right?
  2. You can use oyster grit or broken sea shells in your filter to help buffer the water until you get the coral rock.
  3. You can get some thick black polythene that is pretty cheap. Double layer it, I doubt they will put holes in it. Ive seen dogs run around on it and not rip. just my opinion.
  4. I could take another photo of the stand but it doesn't really change between one undercoat to the next. Funny That. Cupboard doors are drilled for the hinges and ready for paint also.
  5. I really don't want to reduce the flow from the sump to the tank and the pipe size is 30mm
  6. Some people have said to go with an inline reactor. But I already have bought some glass diffusers. I have only seen the inline reactors on Trade me for around $50. I think I might and try both options and see which works best for my tank. My sump pump has a ventri so I might be able to use that.
  7. So it would be 4-6 months if I use 1x diffuser? Or would a 6.3kg bottle be worth getting for the size of my tank?
  8. When I had tropheus they never ate my anubias or ferns, they just kept them spotless of algae.
  9. How long will a 3.5kg co2 bottle last me on this tank running 2x diffusers?
  10. I always have salt, Melafix, primafix, activated carbon and ammonia removing chems. I also have levamisol just incase my clown loaches get skinny disease/worms again. Its a bird dewormer. works with fish in small doses.
  11. I haven't brought anything yet but I was thinking a drark grey tone, almost black. I'm still not 100% sure. Has anyone got pictures of what they have painted their DIY stands?
  12. Haven't done much work on the stand in the last few weeks. Ive ordered the new sump to be built, and the 1st 5 fish have been ordered as well :happy1: Various things have come in the post, sheets of filter foam :happy2: Overflow combs for sump and tank, more plants, and still waiting for the heater and Co2 regulator to turn up. Got the hinges sorted. Another $30 to buy this set to drill the right size hole in the cupboard doors. And 1st coat of under coat done 2 and a half hours later...
  13. The Chromis are looking very cool
  14. What about Cyperus helferii? It seems to be similar but bigger. Do people have this one?

  16. What is the flaxy type plant in the bottom of the forground that is so dense? And is it available in NZ? Pic From: http://www.plantedtank.net/forums/tank-journals-photo-album/69025-125-gallon-journal-please-comment-56k-16.html
  17. just the stand timber cost around $400 maybe more, $100 for screws, filler, sandpaper, door handles, hinges etc, i will try do more costs as i go on through the project.
  18. I can put normal hinges on easily but I have got hidden soft close hinges and have never installed them before. My doors are 20mm wider than the opening and on all my kitchen cupboard doors they are only 5mm. I'm worried the doors won't open because they have too much overlap. Can anyone help me with this that knows what I am talking about?
  19. I think I'm going to need some help with putting the cupboard doors on because I don't know how to do it or if my doors will even work with the hinges. I may have to make some new doors :dunno:
