  1. Chuck a heap of Indian fern in there. That is what I did when I set up my tank, it kept algae from appearing, because it grows so fast. Especially with Co2. But I did have more plants than you.
  2. Assuming you are talking about a texas jaguar... When I had mine with my african cichlids he ate them all when he got big enough to fit them in his mouth. Lesson learnt.
  3. Thanks I'm not sure how old the discus are. They are all between 4 and 7cm. The biggest one in there that didn't come out for the photos is 12+ cm
  4. I got perfect score Picture added to prove it
  5. It could be OK but then again they could all be eaten. I have put guppies in a mixed full grown cichlid tank before for live food and they lived for months, a few went missing though. In the end I took them out because they weren't being eaten. But my cichlids weren't raised eating live fish as a food so they didn't know they could eat them. But every fish are different. IMO try it if you aren't worried about losing a few guppies. They might eventually realize they can eat them when they get bigger. If they can fit them in their mouth it will be eaten. It looks funny having a tail sticking out of a fish's mouth :sml2:
  6. I could easily do it, it grows so fast in this tank, but the plecos like to get underneath it and pull it out or off of what ever it is attached to.
  7. I had a new interest in the tank today so moved a few things around. There is also a heap new discus to look at and make the tank look awesome  I no longer dose the ferts I have. I found the fish weren't very happy, even with weekly water changes and dosing less was pointless. 2 months later and the tank is growing fine without. I have pulled out all the star grass, I got anoyed with it over growing so fast. moved a few pieces to the right side of the tank. Now a carpet of riccia has replaced the star grass. I pulled out all the bigger dwarf sag from the right side and distributed the dwarf chain sword a bit more to help it fill it easier. As usual... lots of photos. I prefer to post pictures than write about it. I had a fan watching too :slfg: "Wasn't me... those scratches were already there, Honest". This is what I see from my couch. I really need to put some better hanging wires on the light hood instead of rope
  8. I say go with the fireplace. You can't beat a good ol fireplace. Its a nicer heat too. And cutting and splitting firewood isn't much of a chore. its cheap easy. And if you have a heat exchange system in the ceiling space to distribute the heat throughout the house, even better. If not, Get one. keeps condensation down too.
  9. My Eheim filters are the quietest and fluval 2nd quietest after a good clean.
  10. I have just watched my neons spawning. I did a water change yesterday morning. and thismorning when the lights turn on they start laying eggs. The sun is on the tank too which I have read can trigger spawing. The male is shimmering up against the female fertilising the eggs as she pushes out 10+ eggs at a time. could be hundreds of eggs all over my tank. Pitty they won't survive. It could be my next project??? Would that be possible? How easy is it to breed these? what is the best way to set up a breeding tank for them? Any advice or tips?
  11. Timeline Images of the tank mostly taken a month apart except for the last one which was 2 months after the one before it.
  12. Quick HD Video. Easier to see the tank than my amateur photos. http://youtu.be/f0VSGEVXRdY?hd=1 I am kind of over this tank now. :yaw1: So plants might be for sale soon
  13. Ive used the Tropical and my fish went on to it easy enough and I found they liked if more than other flakes.
  14. I love my ferns, they are my favorite Plant. Old tank And this one is growing particularly well :sml2:
  15. I have some leaves like this on my narrow leaf plants too. Just a few leaves on the main plant. The leaf splits off like windelov at the tips and goes all frilly.
  16. I use Avast and Spyware Terminator together for great protection. I haven't had a virus for a few years since I started using them. I also have Spyware Doctor on hand just in case but have only needed to use it on friends computers. Easiest thing to do is only go on trusted sites or set up a dummy computer as GrahamC said, and use it for all you web browsing and downloading. If something goes major wrong I find it quicker to wipe the OS & HD and start again.
  17. I see it as, If I am going to hit someones drivers door then I will give way (except for round abouts) and if they are going to hit my door then they give way to me and I go. Easy! Its not that hard to figure out. I just have to watch out for other drivers that haven't figured it out.
  18. Just buy one of those 100ltr plastic bins from the warehouse.
  19. Some sort of Val. sp, Possibly one of the banned types I would say.
  20. I always feed them to mine and they always ate them without complaining. I don't see any harm in feeding them.
  21. I wanted to put shrimp in it but I couldn't find any down here. Anyone have some? Its hard to figure out what I can put in it. I want to see something moving in there.
  22. Thats ok, Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
  23. Ive just scaped one of these tanks. It sits on my work desk. It gets daily 50% water changes and has a few guppy fry. When the fry get too big I swap them out for newborn fry. there is also snails to finish off any missed food. It is very cheaply made but I have added filter media to the under gravel filter to make it better. Has been running for a month now with no problems.
  24. Cut the stargrass back and let it regrow new again.
