  1. After some advice from Ryan Jury I decided to remove my female from her fry, and what a nightmare catching her!. Basically the tank consists of a few caves and a deep layer of Oak leaves. She simply went for cover and changed her colouring to match the oak leaves!!!. It was quite stressful not only to me but to Mrs Apisto, not to mention the fry!. Has been a good few days now and the fry have all settled down and recently I have seen them fighting (tail slapping). Hard to tell how many fry but I'm picking at least 20 to 30 ranging in size from about 7mm to about 15mm.
  2. I may have some Agassizi for sale on here in a few months, fingers crossed.
  3. I'm with you on the Agassizi P44 They are one good looking fish!
  4. Gutted about the fish!. But glad you are safe and sound. Our thoughts are with you guys down there.
  5. Wow! That's one big spawn and a very nice looking female. Look's very different to the female I have. My guess would be near 40 fry remaining?
  6. Nice fish, developing nice colours. Well done Jennifer and thanks for the update.
  7. Sorry to hear about the eggs but good to hear they are recovering
  8. Hey P44. Did you manage to get a successful spawning?
  9. I'm with you Xxdarnixx, Goldfish Bowl Hamilton or World of Water
  10. Brilliant! And I too love the ant with dinner in it's jaws!
  11. Thanks Ryan. Yeah the water is yellow because of the oak leaves but at the moment I am doing a 10% water change every second day as I have no filtration running at the moment but am planning to start filtration when the fry are a bit bigger.
  12. Thanks P44. Yeah they doing well so far. Good luck with your upcoming brood.
  13. Here are some pics of my Apistos and fry. Don't know how you guys get such good pics!...
  14. Cool. I have been meaning to buy some of those. Have a good reason to get some now. Thanks guys!
  15. Thanks for that Ryan. I do notice the fry having a dash towards food intended for mum but not big enough yet.
  16. Hi all. Just after a bit of advice on the growing fry. They are now about 11 days old and swimming around, still quite small but eating well, numbering between 40 to 50. I was wondering at what age should I change there diet? Currently they are been fed with liquifry, green water and microworms.
  17. Hi and welcome Insectile
  18. Thanks for that Ryan but I don't have a spare suitable tank set up and mum is doing a good job for now. (fingers crossed). This morning upon turning on the tank light I noticed mum apisto enter the cave and appeared a moment later with her mouth bulging with fry which she spat on a leaf. She entered the cave a further 5 times, the last time she spat out 1 fry. Amazing to watch!. The fry appeared lifeless, obviously still half asleep but are now back to foraging so that's my cue to get them some grub!
  19. Looking good P44! All set for breeding again
  20. I have recently had minnows at this temp and they have thrived, even breeding. Prior to that I had them in a smaller tank and they started doing the same thing as you described. The only thing I changed was the direction of the water flow from the filter so maybe try adjusting that but other than that I also found it a mystery....
  21. Thanks guys for all your advice! It is a lot easier reading your guys tips than trying to sort through info off the net. Mum is currently guarding her brood of anything between 50 to 80 fry. They seem to be foraging amongst the leaf litter. Some have large white bellies, from the liquify I guess, but some don't appear to have eaten much. Will see how they go over the coming weeks.
  22. The fry that I thought I had lost have now appeared free swimming with their mum!. I have cultured green water in small 375g jars. How often and how much of this should I feed? The tank is approx 180l. Also when should I start doing water changes?
  23. Is this normal behaviour P44? She may be sick of the attention I have been giving her.... And yes I have removed the male a while back.
  24. As of yesterday afternoon the fry were alive and well as I managed to spot them with a torch, wriggling around in the undergrowth being attended by mum. I now have my doubts whether any still survive as mums demeanor has changed. She has become skittery and moving very slow but seems to frighten easily. She has lost her bright yellow colour. Everything was going well yesterday but alas........
