  1. I can't shake the fever, been hot as since Sunday afternoon. With a variety of other unpleasant symptoms. The tiredness is really debilitating, could easily sleep 20 hours a day. And feeling really disoriented. It's gross.
  2. They had more water area than this in their last tank so I think something about the move confused them. The water is more to keep things humid than for them to swim in but the minnows certainly appreciate it...
  3. I was never healthier than when I worked for a sewage treatment plant and had lots of low-level exposure to everything going. In my experience you don't need all those antibacterial soaps and things but you do need to wash your hands well. We had a rule you had to wash your hands for as long as it takes to sing Happy birthday. None of the highly germy places I have worked used antibacterial soaps although we used gloves where necessary.
  4. I think you'd be best off going to sharpes and making it up out of the raw ingredients. Would definitely not be $105 worth
  5. The thing the epidemiologists are worried about is swine flu mutating to give nastier symptoms before anyone gets any resistance to it, and also it developing resistance to tamiflu (some resistant cases have been reported overseas). At the moment it's probably about as deadly as seasonal flu (which does kill people on a regular basis) but flus are very quick at swapping genes which is why you need a different jab every year. I daresay the media are a lot more panicky about it than the scientists. If I was still a virologist the main bother it would be giving me would be 16 hour working days processing the larger number of samples. Epidemics are no fun for the people charged with testing for them! My heart goes out to my former colleagues at ESR.

cheers! I like them. There's a nice wagtail as well
  7. I think they like that I have a fever. warmer the better!
  8. One of my cats was looking after me, now she's gone off on a catnip spree
  9. it just means I know if I need to see a doctor or not

    gemini!

just a cute photo of my hi-fin orange platys not really potm quality but would make a nice tattoo
  12. lol well i felt bad about the others too but it's not me that puts the price on them to be fair I'm not fancy looking
  13. Gahhhh I have a fever, achy joints, woozy head and upset tum. Had the regular flu shot a few months ago making some of the more common strains unlikely. I hear that h1n1 cases are outnumbering seasonal flu cases. Have put myself into voluntary isolation, trying to avoid infecting people with whatever i have... (there is no ill-looking emoticon). Anyone else got it?
  14. +1 I use it straight for ringneck doves but use more corn peas and barley for the pigeons. Shop near me in upper hutt has started selling Inghams pigeon pellets and am trying these too
  15. yay good luck I am doing my first spawn, they mostly ate each other but 6 are going strong lol I started off with VTs as I would have been heartbroken had I killed HM babies
  16. I use a dipstick if things seem offkilter. I think with an established tank a super-accurate reading is probably not necessary. I went without ammonia tests for years as the nose is so sensitive to it anyway that with a lidded tank you can detect very small amounts in the air as you take the lid off. Unless you smoke....
  17. I would have put her in a separate cage where they could see each other for a month or so. Since that chance has been missed, +1 rearranging the cage and possibly moving it, that way it will feel less like the incumbent's territory. I have a lutino called Sunny too! Cockie gang = 1 albino female Milly 1 lutino female Bella 1 lutino male Sunny 1 "normal" male Bart :bounce: Currently trying to teach Bart the Andy Griffith show theme
  18. Yep will give breeding a go Currently: 6 babies (turq/red VT x turq VT) too small to see what they will be like - there were lots but there was a cannibalism outbreak! I figure that for a first spawn 6 is plenty for me to care for and Darwin probably prevailed so the best ones lived 5 turq/red VT female 1 royal blue VT female dad of the spawn passed on, replaced by turq lyretail VT, looks like he might have a bit of CT in him too as his tail has a bit of fringing 1 steelblue delta female 1 turq delta female and the pair pictured above Here's a pic of the deltas
  19. I get dove seed at Sharpes in Lower Hutt, they should be able to sort you out.
  20. I just use aquarium pebbles as the substrate, seems to be ok as the frogs produce enough waste to keep the plants going. I use the gravel like a UG filter and the plants suck up all the nutrients really well. I purchase regular baby plants at the redshed and rinse the roots off well under the tap, then plant them. Maybe I am just lazy? I don't think frogs really need heating as they live fine outdoors so indoors is probably more than warm enough. My whistlies never seem to want to hibernate so I daresay they are cozy. The lighting warms things up anyway. I just use an LED light which is part of an indoor fountain I dismantled (you saw my thread anyway). You can take the glass out to let more UV through if necessary.
  21. then I wouldn't be able to see the froggies! another one tried to drown itself today. So weird. It was underwater in the deepest part going :bounce: and didn't seem to realise it could just swim over to the rock ramp, or climb up a rock or wall. Had to scoop it out and put it on a plant as it was getting exhausted! Stoopid stoopid frog
  22. that's just a really small african violet. you can get them at the redshed too
  23. Being a frog I'm thinking he jumped :bounce:
