  1. wear strong gardening gloves or you will end up like me at the doctors rooms getting a gash in your finger fixed  I did find that cutting glass is easier with a rotary tool with a diamond wheel (aka a dremel), especially if it is toughened glass. And then it cuts your finger very effectively.
  2. the baby leopards will definitely get eaten as soon as they are born they are not very compatible tank conditions-wise leopard = cool, fast moving water (27 degrees at a very maximum but preferably more like 20 degrees) pH neutral to 8 betta = warm and gentle current pH slightly acid although leopards are pretty adaptable
  3. my recipe is 1C rolled oats 1C boiling water 1t vegemite microwave all of the above together for 1-2 minutes or until firm when cool add 2t of yeast and your microworm starter
  4. my brother fed my goldfish orange juice when we were little because he thought it looked thirsty (?!!!!!) it survived and lived many more years, and survived several more near misses such as being played with by a cat and jumping out of its tank and being covered in dust

    Sea horses!

yeah you can't tease us like that
  6. oooo how is it today? sounds hopeful
  7. http://www.geocities.com/drosera123/recipes.htm this site too looks big enough to be fed once an hour as I said, but it'll let you know if its hungry
  8. forgot to say: food must be WARM, like a baby's bottle temperature, and must be made up fresh each time. I bet you are regretting this now! You could call the vet and ask if there is a bird sanctuary in the area, or sometimes the kindest thing to do is to put it out of its misery. If you can find the exact spot it came from it would be best if it goes back there. Its parents are more than a match for cats, spur winged plovers are vicious
  9. this article may help http://www.birdsnways.com/wisdom/ww36e.htm and there is a forum on the site, the people there are great. Its mostly americans so you can stay up all night getting help from them lol
  10. I'd be busting out the Furan at this point
  11. when I got her she was called Lily but I have a silkie bantam called Lily (short for Lilliput) and she doesn't mind it suits her anyway
  12. they nest on the ground, probably best to put it back where it was found. Otherwise, put it in a box lined with a towel. Under the towel put a plastic bottle that you have filled with hot but not boiling water. 2 bottles is good so it can have its body supported, one on each side. If you have a heat pad even better. Another towel goes over the top to keep the heat in. Make sure the box is too high for him to jump out too, and out of the way of cats etc. To feed him, raw mince mixed with cooked egg yolk and mixed with water to a slurry. Use an eyedropper and aim for the right side of the beak (its right). Tapping the side of the container may stimulate it to open its beak to be fed. it needs to be fed once an hour dawn to dusk (say 7am to 7pm) and you can tell if it is full by feeling its crop (lower part of the neck) - should be nice and bulgy after a feed. Expect it to die anyway they are not easy
  13. albino 8) you can get an albino by crossing lutino (yellow) with whiteface (kind of like a grey normal cockie without the yellow and red). Lutinos don't make grey pigment and whitefaces don't make yellow.
  14. she's too young for what you have in mind!

    Sea horses!

ooo what kind? the NZ kind or the tropical kind *eaten up by jealousy at the thoughts of lucky people who will be getting seahorses*
  16. they're one of the most reliable brands out. knew someone who had one for 15 years, still going for all I know, and it had taken a lot of abuse including several house moves
  17. probably more productive to give some $$$ to the SPCA along with a note about what you would like them to do with it (prosecute the offenders)
  18. this is the caudata.org article by the way http://www.caudata.org/cc/articles/Tank_critters2.shtml
  19. just stuck one under the 'scope and it seems to be an ostracod here is a similar one from caudata.org which assures me they are fine and edible. There are some other interesting greeblies in there today, some mossies which I will cull out but also some bloodworms
  20. she probably would, the little flirt! She loves it when pet shops have bring your pet days - shes usually the only bird and the rest are dogs but thats ok with her 8)
  21. I think they are called kits. But that's not very interesting
  22. The SPCA has been asking people to put their hands in their pockets recently to help with the costs of prosecuting jerks like these. Pass the hat around, people
  23. a pod? do you mean a copepod? a pod is the perfect name for them, it's exactly what they look like
  24. Spike's not for sale, he works there. But she does have 3 other cockie friends here. She just likes Spike a lot. If we take her for a ride to the pet store she starts screeching before we even pull up.
  25. Don't think so? There were a couple of mozzie larvae in there, these aren't long and slim like a mozzie and much smaller. Too small to see any moving parts.
