    timers

Ok, the ones I was thinking of WEREN'T HPM ones. But guess what! The HPM one had decided it didn't want to turn off when I got home from work this morning. It wouldn't even turn off manually. I took it apart, the contacts didn't seem to be welded closed, so I'm not sure what the problem is. It looked like there's a flat metal bar that snaps back and forth to turn it on and off. That bit had shifted a little so that it wouldn't turn off again. I THINK that's it, assuming I didn't do that while disassembling it. Unfortunately, after reassembling it, it doesn't turn like it's supposed to so it's still busted.
  2. Maybe just a sticky, "HOW MUCH SALTWATER COSTS" and another "WHAT EQUIPMENT YOU NEED" That would be a good start.
  3. Lucky bastards, I can't even get broadband here.
  4. Ok, here's my strawberry basslet...
  5. She should still come! The cancer will wait, it's not going anywhere while she's on vacation!
  6. SInce we're going to be up there the weekend... Anyone know the names of any good pet stores in Napier? Wifey wants places with birds, says it can't just be a weekend for me and fish.
  7. I don't have a problem with messing with nature, just as long as the result isn't a hideous ugly monster like balloon fish or fancy goldfish.

    timers

I bought 2 of them, I guess HPM ones, from dick smith, digital ones anyway. Neither of them would keep the time and settings!

    refugium bits

Pies, next time you're dumping a bucket lemme know, I'll come get it. Got my refugium all ready(Well, not quite, need more sand and rock, but that can wait) I just need something to refuge in it.

    wiring LED's

I redid mine using a prototype PCB, MUCH cleaner and easier to solder than in a series soldered to a wire. I'm thinking though I might buy another 10-20 LEDS and add even more because it's not nearly as bright as I expected and I'll also drop to a lower rated resistor to bump the voltage up a bit. Warren, I don't see how putting a several in a series would get the brightness more even. You'd end up with the first brightest then dimmer then dimmer because each one down the line would have less voltage. So you'd just have several sets of them going bright, dimmer, dimmest. At least with them all wired in parallel they all get the same voltage.

    DI filters

Ok, I sent off an email to Anthony preston LTD asking for prices on a micron filter and DI, but what exactly should I tell them I'm looking for? And where can I get phosphate absorber cheap?
  12. They don't seem to attack anything, just scavengers. Might change when they get big though.
  13. Ah, bristleworms! Yeah, the current conensus is they're a good part of a cleanup crew. Used to be they were considered evil. I give it another 2 years before they're considered evil again. The worms I've got that I'm curious about, they're just little white worms very thin but up to 3-4" long. Build themselves little tubes out of sand and other bits of debris and spend their lives waving around their tubes. I'd say they're a tubeworm because they build tubes, but aren't most filter feeders? These definitely aren't.

    Yup, should be fine.

Obviously someone failed chemistry in school.
  16. Maybe two pumps in a series or something like a reefflo dart or the next step up. It's a high flow not high pressure pump, but they've got some serious flow and would be about half that price.

    Ph monitor

And that makes it different from any other drops in a test tube PH test kit how? Hehe.
  18. I'm still going to suck on mine. I think the risk of getting a mouthful of tankwater is much more to worry about than getting salmonella.
  19. From personal experience I can tell you, Smuggling african clawed frog in your body cavities...Bad idea, VERY bad idea. Smuggling african soft toed frog, not so bad.
  20. Especially if you wait for a complete secondhand tank to come up for sale.
  21. I'd ask for you, but you have to be authenticated.
  22. I'd call cold water something that could be kept in a pond outside. Which would obviously not include guppies. In a reasonably well heated house most tropicals would be able to handle 18ish degrees without too much trouble. Doesn't mean angels, Severums, etc are cold water cichlids.

Redspot, common pleco. I think we need a bit more info for a good suggestion.
