747s are great, that would be fine with me Now, I'd have some serious issues if it was an Airbus...
  2. Heh, it must have been a DE because they NEED the cover glass to block all the lovely UV-C that comes off them. So, basically you've been had a nice 250? watt UV sterilizer busily sterilizing your tank all day. I expect you're going to get a LOT of die off.

    WONDERWORLD ROTORUA

Hmmm, Now I just need a good reason to go to rotorua.
  4. Until people stop thinking it's their god given duty to breed like locusts, no.
  5. No, the charcoal isn't a biological media. And they're so small you don't really even need to consider the effect on the cycle anyway.
  6. I just unplug the cannisters after about an hour of no power so when it comes back on I drain all the water out of them and plug them back in. I don't want any nasty water from in the filters going into the tank when the power comes back on. I don't worry about the loss of bacteria otherwise, there's going to be as much if not more in the tank than in the filters.

    Noisy Pump

6000ish, actually. Most garden centers have them, probably get a better price there than from a pet shop.

    Noisy Pump

    How about a Laguna PJ5000? Mine's quiet.
  9. Have you actually measured the waste to product ratio? 15-20 is really high, I'm just thinking maybe something like you need a restrictor to increase the pressure on the membrane or something. Though, it may just be due to the water temp and how dirty it is.

    Tank Upgrade...

That's pretty much how warren's was, IIRC. Frame hold's the glass in place, silicon's basically just there to keep it from leaking.

    Condy issue.

Looks like maybe you need to adjust your antenna....

Aww, man I'm jealous...Going to bed twice a day...
  19. What power company are you with? Mine doesn't pay out for lost fish and I had $200-300 of fish die on me because of a power outage! And insurance companies don't pay either. They'd say: "Livestock? Hahaha, yeah right.*Click*"
  20. DSLRs don't really depreciate very fast. Not compared to the non SLRs. You're going to have a hard time finding ANY dslr ,even 5+ years old for less than $500, but even a prosumer non slr usually drops to less than that in a year or two.
  21. I dunno how much experience you have with photography, but unless you've got enough to make it worth spending well over a grand on a camera without even including lenses...Well, basically that expensive of a camera is just going to help, it's not going to take good pictures for you. You could probably get something like a Powershot S2 for half the price(Or even a quarter if you include a good lense or two) compared to a dslr or a tenth compared to the 5D and take nearly as good of pictures. So, my advice is you're looking to spend WAY more money than necessary if you're looking for a DSLR, they're nice but overkill.
  22. I've just found a lot of my palythoa polyps are closing up and one of my finger leathers. Coraline seems happy enough. It's actually only in the last couple weeks since I did a water change. Actually, I'm thinking I might take the carbon and phosphate resin out too. Because that was added around the same time...
  23. Hmmm, Yeah, my tank has been a bit unhappy looking lately, I wonder if the strontium is getting low since I'm using Crystal sea? I've got some NSW I'll do the next water change with though...
