  1. all beardies in nz are related to a high degree and colour morphs are all from inbreeding, not ideal but all mine still have the right number of digits, eyes and limbs. so far....touch wood.
  2. nothing to do with age, it is size. even then it is a guess, so no guarantees. i am happy to sell a pair and swap animals at a later date if need be.
  3. unless you bought one and had it confiscated and killed. if you are the big k then sure, it is worth it.
  4. i'm assuming that the birds are then exported from here?
  5. you pay peanuts you get monkeys...try getting something in writing from them about what reptiles are legal- they wont do it as they are too busy covering their own backsides. The key is PR, make them look bad by starting our own licensing system and see what happens. Another good example is the Otago skink which is close to becoming extinct in the wild- they will not hand out any permits- except to one guy in wellington. Retarded monkeys.
  6. I am going to try to get my own system running for what I sell, but most people will not be too keen on supplying address details if they are buying expensive reptiles.....open to other suggestions on a licensing system.....
  7. can be done in california thru lynfield vet in akl. I have had done but did not send as a biological sample and as a result of 911 the US treats all mail with Gamma Iradiation so results were only achieved on 3 out of 15 lizards. If you send as a biological sample would cost a bit more but paperwork would be hell.....
  8. the young of a cross- green x albino- are guaranteed to be heterozygous and if you cross the young with each other 25%n will be homozygous green and 25% homozygous albino.
  9. bearded are better, don't get as toasted under the basking light......
  10. try holding a crystal on a piece of string over its head. clockwise circle is boy, anticlockwise is girl.....or is it the other way round??? I have seen it done- honest
  11. pellets are bad. call biosuppliers in Akl and get him to send you a wax moth colony- 500 should do it. great food for young beardies- full of fat and protein. if he sends you other bugs they will likely die in transit, but the waxies will be sweet.
  12. I for one and not afraid to say that the big k is one of the worst people I have ever dealt with. And in my humble opinion MAF are not much better. The iguanas were seized and killed to be 'a disincentive to smugglers' Lets see... 1) iguanas and chinese water dragons that were misidentified as iguanas are dead- they lose. (don't laugh they are both green and have scales) 2) people that paid $4k per animal lose- as does Ti Point reptile park that custom built an enclosure for 3 that were donated- public lose as well as they can not see them 3) kim keeps her coin- WINNER!! 4)Maf gets a great profile in the media for being 'on to it'. we'll just omit the bit about identifying lizards wrong as we can't have them looking stupid- WINNER Bottom line is until....... 1) MAF comes up with a licensing system where animals are recorded and traded with paperwork detailing buyer and seller, supporting that they were captive bred. People are charged a small annual fee for keeping reptiles so that MAF can run the system properly...i.e; people agree that they can be searched at any time by MAF and paperwork checked. No paperwork = not legal = naughty boy. This would mean that we would have to have an amnesty- what is here and what is not. This is not rocket science, i am just stealing an idea the aussies came up with 20 years ago. 2) MAF pays better and employ people with brains. ...then people like the big K will continue to give the hobby a bad name. sorry only just saw this old thread and and dont think it deserves be on page 2 just yet!! Lets get some debates flowing this weekend
  13. were you one of the 'experts' who misidentified the green water dragons as iguanas? both green i suppose....

  16. usually is temp in first 1/4 of incubation period. beardies not researched yet, but usually male is at warmer temps in other species- but can be the opposite in some species.
  17. get a tuna bin or similar form a plastic wholesaler like payless plastics
  18. he's looking to establish his territory for breeding, and possibly being a bit more aggressive to his own reflection than normal. weird time to brumate him, why you do it now?
