  1. It depends on which species of aponogeton you are talking about. Some do not require rest periods. If it produces vegatively its probably aponogeton undulatus. I have seen it go brown in cooler conditions and when the water warms up its takes over the aquarium.
  2. They got whitespot Im assuming from the temp change from water changing. No more have died though and the whitespot was treated immediatly and dissapeared after a couple of days. Im thinking there may have been something on the lettuce he was feeding?
  3. They are still eating and swallowing the food. Do you think lettuce could be the problem he has been feeding them that recently.
  4. Can they be bloated but not LOOK bloated? Just dorsal is clamped. they still are eating. Some are even holding young.
  5. My mate has a 6foot african tank in which he had several variety of fish including some victorian haps some lelupi an tropheus. One of his tropheus died on Monday morning follwed by another 3 today. He did a 50% water change Monday afternoon thinking it may be the water. He moved the other fish out of the tank and just left the tropheus in there. All the other fish are fine. He tested his water today. Parameters are ph 8.0 ammonia 0 nitrite 0 nitrate 5. The fish arent showing any sign of disease and arent bloated. He hasnt introduced any new fish to the tank and doesnt use fly sprays or chemicals where his fish are kept. He feeds mainly vege foods lettuce spiralina flake and occasionally fresh mussels from the supermarket. The fish appear to be struggling to swim sit on the bottom then die. He has high aeration and good filtration systems. Can anybody with tropheus knowledge please help!
  6. I really cannot believe that maf let it through. Considering they dont let lace plant come into the country even if its been tissue cultured, but they let these "marimo balls" in that would be more of a threat to nz waterways.
  7. I would be extremely cautious to purchase one of those. I dont think they have ever legally been imported into NZ. if you buy one put it in your tank and maf finds out they came in illegally they will destroy everything in your tank! I know someone that smuggled them into the country and there whole tank got destroyed including the fish.
  8. I believe it is about 7-9 years old. I may be wrong but the lady that had it since a baby offered it to me for free. She kept buying bigger and bigger tanks as it kept out growing them and then eventually gave up so I told it take it to bird barn and ask alan if he would buy it off her which he obviously did. Very impressive eel.
