  1. Yep I have had Kuhlis and GBA's in the same tank with no problems at all. Bear in mind that both these species are nocturnal fish and may be active during the day if the tank is lightly stocked but I have found that the more heavily the tank is stocked the more likely it is that these fish will only come out at night when the other fish in the tank are less active.
  2. I'm with you mark. I have them in most of my tanks too. I also remember the excitement of the first few batches But now its " oh god not again"...and what doesn't get sold or given away becomes food for the bigger fish. Most of the time now I keep the male in a separate tank from female and when my stocks get low I put the female back in with him and get a new clutch of eggs within a few days.
  3. I had a good long chat on the phone with the seller this afternoon. I was told that they have spawned and had fry twice. The first time the fry died it was put down to water temp and the second time the fry got to about finger nail size and all died within an hour of a 20% water change. These were the only two fish in the tank both times. I got a got handle on what the water parameters were and what gets them in the mood. I will try to replicate their old environment and see what happens. I realise that many of you think that they are too young to breed and i must say the i agree with you but after talking to the seller, I believe that they are telling the truth. Watch this space. P.S. the seller told me that they have 2 other 3 year old gold nuggets that are approx 14cm and share the same 300L tank along with a few other fancy plecs.
  4. I'm waiting for mr pleco to get online and look at this thread. planet catfish is a good idea. Or may just advertise as yellow spotty purdy catfish
  5. Ok, so I have been talking to the seller tonight and this is part of the reply The plot thickens :bounce: :bounce: Hi, I have had eggs and babies they just never managed to survive.
  6. These fish haven't been positively ID'ed yet Even if they are wild caught there is no way of knowing if they are pure or not. If these guys do ever breed in the distant future they would never be sold as a pure line unless I could get a positive ID from more than one person. Yes they are purdy and I like em.
  7. yep, I have read that artical quite a few times over the last week or 2. This is a quote from the artical With identification being such a fraught, tentative process, it is perhaps reassuring to know that care of all of these fish is somewhat simpler if not less demanding.
  8. I do agree with you regarding it be ideal to have pure strains. But if it is possible for 2 fish to breed in the wild and come from the same area of river or lake then cross breeding almost certainly does happen in the wild so why shouldn't it happen in the aquarium
  9. I am starting to think the same way. The bottom one definately has smaller spots and more of a green background colour compared to the top one. Time will tell I suppose.
  10. Is it possible that spot size can vary within the same species. I know it can in many other species of fish
  11. They arrived safe and sound :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: Im very pleased with them but now cant even decide if they are the same species let alone sex them. I would appreciate some help
  12. Sorta defeats the purpose of of doing a gavel vac and a water change at the same time don't you think?
  13. Before I get a slap around the ears, I happen to a very supportive wife who has also become addicted to the hobby and does a lot of the work when I am unable.
  14. There are plenty more people out there with way more tanks that me. I do 20-30% water change on all my tanks every Sunday and it takes less than 2 hours. It's just a matter of being organised and having the right tools. Feeding and water parameter checks take no time at all and are part of my relaxation time after work.
  15. I agree. By the time you have gravel vac'ed half your tank you should have removed 20-30% of the water. Vac the other half of the tank the following week. It works for me.
  16. Got no reptiles. 18 Tropical freshwater tanks. I'm concentrating mainly on fancy plecos but breed all sorts to help pay the food and power bill.
  17. As per my 1st post "I don't know much about lizards " and I don't own any. Just trying to be helpful without being too cheeky.
  18. Did a quick google search and came up with this 250mg Piperazine base as piperazine Citrate, per each teaspoon (5ml) I will let you do the rest.
  19. Nah, I think its his brother, Ira is not as good looking
  20. I don't know much about lizards but I do know about Ivomec. Ivomec comes in pour on and oral formulations. I'm picking that oral is what you will be needing. Be very careful as Ivomec is for worming cattle and is very concentrated: I.E only a few mills per 10kg. You will need no more than a drop on a pin head for a lizard. HTH.
  21. I'm not a great speller either but I downloaded the google to bar for Internet explorer. It comes with a spell checker. I use it for most of my Internet postings and now I look as clever as Ira, ( apart from the big words and witty repartee)
  22. Yep very friendly most of the time but not house trained yet
  23. They are 7-8 cm in size and the seller recons they are less than a year old. They are going into a 5 footer and will be the only bottom dwellers in the tank. Got them for less than the buy now
  24. I dont think that there will be any young for sale in the near future. Even if they are a pair they will have a bit of growing to do before they reach maturity. As for the kids. Keep an eye on private trade and exchange. there are more plecs that im after and I have 5 other kids that may be going cheap
