  1. I just read your other thread and the only similarities are the speed of death and the one C.L that had the white film over the eyes. That C.L died about an hour ago along with 2 neons. The 6 remaining gourami's all seem pefectly fine as do the 3 adult GBA and the upside down cat. everthing else looks like it will struggle to last the night I have just completed another water change, added a litle bit more salt and have started teating with furan. Its a pulic holiday here today so i cant get any other meds until tomorrow. Thanks for the help and concern
  2. The tank temp is 26.5 Its a little higher than normal (24.5) but thats just coz of the warm weather. I dont use buckets to change the water, I use a vortex sink pump straight from the mixer tap. Oh well, cant do too much else apart from another water change and hope. I might get some furan2
  3. Update. I lost 2 glass cats over night. 1 clown loach isnt looking good and has a white film over its eyes. All of the neons and danios have their scales sticking out, A bit like dropsy but they are not bloated. Time for meds????
  4. A quick wash will be fine but if you want to be extra safe boil them or pour boiling water of them.
  5. I only do it when i get a BBA problem as most others are relatively easy to deal with.
  6. To save scrubbing rocks and ornaments etc I pull mine out of the affected tank, put them straight into the microwave on high for 2 minutes and put them straight back into the tank. When they come out of the microwave they are completely sterilised and the fish eat the dead algae
  7. Agreed, I have mine in a 4 foot planted tank with fine, smooth gravel
  8. Thanks Stella, I will add those ratio's to my ever growing list of helpful information.
  9. Too Late Ive used more salt than that in the past when my angels were beating each other up. Thanks for all the advice.
  10. Cool. The tank in question is about 250L so i will throw in a couple of handfuls
  11. Thanks Phoenix, What rate of salt/litre do you recomend with loaches. Just re tested the ph and its still at 7.4 after the 50% change (normal for the tank)
  12. Thanks Mystic I will undate this thread as things progress.
  13. Cheers, That sounds like a possibility due to the change of filter etc. No detectable ammonia now. I have no stress coat or aloevera jelly until tomorrow. I do have melafix or could add some rock salt. Would any of these be of benifit or should i wait for the stress coat. Mystic: I do have a few rocks and logs etc in the tank but they have all been in there of over 2 years.
  14. No I havent used any plant ferts for months and yes by tatty i mean white around the edges with small bits flaking off.
  15. All fish seem to acting normal. A couple of neons and glass cats are now starting to look a bit tatty around the fins. I'm starting to suspect fin rot. and will get some furan 2 tomorrow
  16. I do a 30% water change ever sunday without fail. last water change was last sunday I did a 50% water change today and will do another 50% tomorrow.
  17. I'm waiting for the pic's too. I can imagine a fierce bidding war if they are real
  18. I got up this morning to find 4 dead fish. 2 x kuhli loaches, 1 x clown loach and 1 x honey gourami. All these fish have been in the tank for approx 2 years. All the fish still had bright colours suggesting that it was a recent and rapid death. None of the fish had any external signs of disease or fighting. I immediately tested the water. ammonia= 0 nitrite= 0 nitrate= 10ppm phosphate less than .25 PH= 7.4 (normal for that tank) All that has changed is that 2 weeks ago I changed my cf1200 for a 1400lph canister filter with built in UV. I used the media from the cf1200 in the new filter. There was room for another tray of media so I added new noodles in that tray. All that I can think of is that the new noodles and sponges created an overnight nitrite spike that was undetectable in the morning. Any Ideas??
  19. Discus are well know for jumping out of tanks. I would advise using a lid at all times.
  20. I Agree with your concerns however I have never had this problem before. I recon its coz we installed new plastic rainwater tanks and got rid of the old concrete ones. Only 1 out of 16 tanks has developed the problem and it is the most heavily planted but is also the only tank tank that is upstairs in the lounge so it get hotter than the others this time of year and gets more indirect sunlight. its also probably the most heavily stocked. Its just great to be able to see the fish again instead of the pea soup. I will turn the UV bulb off in a few months when the weather cools down again.
  21. I just bought one of these. Trade Me Link removed. Please read the guidelines. Mod Bill. I am very impressed with it. It has been running in a 300L tank for 48 hours and the water has gone from green pea soup to crystal clear in that time. I did have a cf1200 in the tank and did 50% water changes every 3 days, turned the lights out etc, etc and couldn't get rid of the algae. Its quiet, easy to prime and replacement UV bulbs are only $18. I score it highly.
  22. I'm having the same problem with my display tank in the lounge so I have got one of these on the way. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Home-living/Pe ... 570790.htm Has anyone had any experience with them?
  23. I keep mine in a 70L tank which i would consider to be about the smallest area that they need.
  24. Gastromyzon scitulus and Beaufortia kweichowensis. But I may be wrong.
