  3. Excellent Thanks Lyndyloo. I will grab a couple and if they are as good as you say I recon i will slowly convert all my heaters to these whenever I have have to replace my glass heaters. I searched a heap of old posts and found quite a few peopled speaking highly of them
  4. Petmart has these on special at the moment and I thought that i might try one or two. I particularly like the external temperature controls and want to try stainless steel instead of my usual glass heaters. Has anyone had any experience with these. http://www.petmart.co.nz/cart_product11 ... egory_ID=1

  9. Best you acknowledge the web site before the mods/admins jump on you. It's a great informative post . As you know through our PM's I believe that the same job can be done without store bought products. The end result is still the same.
  10. Well said and a great post
  11. I'm pleased to hear that. I was just reflecting on your studies and perhaps next year you should concentrate more on geography and less on biology and chemistry
  12. I suppose you wont talk to me now
  13. Us southerners (including our fish) are a bit harder than our north island cousins. Kenny G is banned down this way. The best I could do would be ABBA
  14. Doh!!! Thats what im doing wrong. I've been playing them meat loaf
  15. Don't believe anything that livingart says. I've had mine for more than 72 hours now and still no eggs    Maybe im doing something wrong
  16. They are about 6mm long and 3mm diameter. They are easy enough to crush but there is no real need as the soften after a while in the water. Thats if the big fish dont get them first They also sink fast which gives the bottom dwellers a chance to eat them.
  17. I use heaps of the type on this auction 222216205. The fish love em, they are not messy and dont leave and oily film on the surface.
  18. I'm glad that you sorted that out before some of us got the chance to reply
  19. Gold nuggets are not really wood eaters but it does help to have wood in the tank. This is from planet catfish These fish are grazers, but not in the sense that they eat only vegetation. They actually sift and chew at the film of organic matter on hard surfaces in search of higher protein foods. In the wild this would constitute a variety of foods from small insect larvae and crustaceans to other animals eggs and possibly even recently dead animals. With this in mind, frozen foods such as bloodworm and blackworm should be offered along with frozen prawns. Algae and plants are avoided, but cucumber and courgette appear on the accepted menu. Accepted food morsel size changes with age in all of these fish
  20. It is probably just a swollen gland from a slight infection or cold. Don't panic you will be fine and it will probably go down in a few days. Having said that, If you are worried it is always a good idea to see your doctor.
  21. I recon its a male, All of my males at this age and size look like this. I have never had a female of that age and size with anywhere near that amount of bristles. Great to hear that he is still going strong :bounce:
  22. They are bigger than i thought they would be. I'm guessing at around 14-15cm. The male has a great set of branched bristles that would rival the best that i have seen. I will try to get a pick when he lets me. Good luck with your juvi pair they are great fish.
  23. Thanks to Blue and Kim I now have a proven pair of L182 Starlight bristlenose. They only arrived today but seem to have settled in well. Dad has even picked his cave and started fanning. Here's hoping that it's a sign of things to come Yes Livingart these guys have got whitespot too  female Male
  24. My 8 footer is in the lounge on the second story of our house. It is against a supporting wall with the floor joists running off the supporting wall and not parallel with it ( If you know what i mean). Don't worry about your tank, It will be fine.
  25. Sorry to hear about your misfortune. I learnt the hard way too and now all my tanks that contain valuable or favourite fish have 2 heaters in them. The first is the primary heater and the second is set slightly lower and only ever turns on during water changes, extra cold nights or primary heater failure. Cheap insurance I recon.
