  1. Does it have a white pimple on its belly? If so, all is probably normal and all it means is that you have a fat girl with an egg spot.
  2. Ahhhh. So its you that has the weird yellow coral in POTM
  3. They will do fine in a small tank with little flow. I just like to try and recreate a fishes natural environment whenever I can.
  4. I made a river tank for my borneo's with a one way, high flow filter system. It cost next to nothing Here is the link. viewtopic.php?f=28&t=34295 Step by step pics are on page 2.
  5. Hi rox. Thanks for the pic. Maybe it is a hormonal thing??? Were yours like this when you picked them up? If not I still think that it may be a stress issue. Hormonal would be good as it may mean breeding will shortly follow :bounce:
  6. Thanks mate. I was hoping that an experienced pleco nut had come across the same problem. I will isolate and treat her first thing in the morning
  7. Thanks for the input guys From my experience with plecos stress is the primary reason for colour change. If it's not the water then the addition of the other female is the logical thought. I would be surprised if it was fungal but i wont rule it out Someone on the fishkeepers forum suggested that it may be heater burn. Any other ideas?
  8. I already have 6 caves for 3 fish in a 3 foot planted tank. Who is the outsider. The new female? or the older one that is losing the battle? Hails a cabie driving a black woolsley and drives off into the mist
  9. So add more caves? or Remove a female and if so which one ? Takes a nip of gin and another suck on the pipe
  10. Well deducted sherlock. But do they look like battle wounds to you? And who dunnit? (sits back in his chair, sucks on his pipe and rubs his chin)
  11. Over the last week she has developed a pale patch on the bridge of her nose and a few more patches over her entire body, her tail also looks a bit tatty. She is still very active and has a healthy appetite The water quality is fine. The only change I have made is to add another smaller female to the tank (about two weeks ago). The other small female and the male look fine. They are the only occupants of the tank. Any ideas? It doesn't look like fighting wounds to me but I could stand corrected.
  12. Very very nice indeed. Wana sell it I had a quick look on planetcatfish and couldn't find it. Perhaps you should post a pic of it there to get it identified. Keep us posted.
  13. I currently have 4 species of whiptail and they all get the following. Decap brine shrimp egg Bloodworms Flake algae wafers veges
  14. Perhaps of these would do would do the job and cost very little. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Home-living/Pe ... 808115.htm or http://www.trademe.co.nz/Home-living/Pe ... 861371.htm
  15. I drilled holes in my coke bottles and put them in a spare 4 foot tank, I filled the tank 3/4 the way up the coke bottles and added a heater and a filter. It worked great.
  16. +1 quick, easy and reliable
  17. Have you tried Flourish exel? Perhaps it needs a co2 boost
  18. As Stated above you may be over caring for them. Mine thrive on neglect and low light with a sprinkle of pmdd about once a month if i remember.
  19. I'd go for a peacock cichlid
  20. Or you could leave the lid open a bit to let the air get in and reduce the moisture levels
  21. I have had the same thing happen myself. I dont know what it is and what causes it. I am on rain water, are you?. I have always had problems with fish health when this stuff is in the tank. I'm sure that it has only happened on new suction cups in tanks that I had just set up.
  22. Keep checking your water parameters. After being cold for that period of time you may have also killed of your filter bacteria and your tank may go through another cycle
  23. Cheers, Im no geologist but I would would call it Quartz or Quartzite. The yellowing is just staining caused by weathering or from being in the river that i grabbed them from
  24. This is my new 5 foot 550L African tank. Ok so it doesn't have africans in it yet but it is fully cycled using south americans. I am on rain water too so i added approx 5L of shell to the gravel and about 2kg of coral rock to the tank. I also throw in the odd cuttlefish bone. I can easily maintain the PH at 7.4 - 7.8 as well as keeping the GH and KH at a level that keep most africans happy. I hope this helps
