  1. And its always good to have a spare cycled filter hidden away in the back of a tank, just in case you need it in another tank
  2. We had a DVS in our last house and we found it great for keeping the moisture off the windows. We found the heating component very expensive to run and opted not to use it. I just got a quote for a heat transfer system that runs on a thermostat (much like a DVS) and the plan is to pump the free warm air from my attic into the bedrooms and to the fishroom in the garage. The quote was $1400 ish
  3. Welcome and enjoy the forums :bounce:
  4. A La Carte ( A fancy Lunch ) :bounce:
  5. I recon that $1 per litre works as a rough guide for your normal rectangle tank.
  6. If it comes with bio balls throw them away and add more ceramic noodles. Bio balls are pretty much useless in a canister filter as the need more air around them to do their job.
  7. Best you newt er it so it cant breed more deformed offspring
  8. I was told that they will not breed down this way as the temperatures never get warm enough. They are all breed up north somewhere using hormone injections and stripping.
  9. I think I better bite my tongue when it comes to carp jokes
  10. White Amur Carp are also known as grass carp. Just do a google search for "grass carp recipies"
  11. I'm hoping that I will be one of the first on the list to try one. Apparently they grow up to a metre long Being fed on herbs they may come pre seasoned  It is planned to have the system completed in four months. The work on putting in the underground filtration units has already begun. I will see if I can get a few pic's
  12. I just had visit from my neighbour you owns Tas Bay Herbs here in Motueka. He bought with him an Australian aquaculturist who he has commissioned to design and build a pilot aquaculture system for his business. Basically the system includes four 2000 litre tanks that will contain White Amur Carp (and yes he has the licence to farm this species). These tanks will be filtered through very large wet/dry filters and then the water pumped through his hydroponics system to feed his herbs. Any waist herbs and plant matter are going to be dried and pelletised to feed the carp. Once the carp reach a certain size the will be killed and sold for human consumption. An almost totally closed system. I'm looking forward to seeing it up and running.
  13. Thanks jim r. There are many forum members that are watching this thread and we all respect your knowledge, experience and advice. I was wondering if you could elaborate on your reasoning for not including SAE into this type of tank.
  14. You are a man of few words jim r  Would you ever contemplate adding SAE to your discus and L018 tank??
  15. So when are we guna see some of your pics in POTM Lvingart?
  16. I would lay money on the fact that jim r doesn't have an SAE in with his 13 L018.
  17. Your onto it LyndyLoo. Well prompted P44
  18. Sorry to hear that. Do you have a quarantine tank that you can move the survivors to? If so it would be a good idea until you get the main tank sorted
  19. Snap... Same setup as I have in my 550L 5 footer but I only do 30% weekly changes as I dont have discus. I would still love to see a pic of 13 x L018 Living happily together in the one tank. Its an impossible pic to take i know but surely you could get get 3 or 4 in one shot
  20. Any chance of a pic? It Sounds like an awesome tank. That's a lot of $$$ in one tank. What are your filters , water change regime, back up systems etc
  21. My newest pump is 180w But my wife tells me that size isn't everything
  22. In my opinion there is no need for any meds until you a definite diagnosis. You will be just waisting your money. Water changes along with a handful of rock salt are your best friends at the moment.
