  1. My Oscars do the same. It cool to watch big fish doing it
  2. Dunno  I have never looked into sexing them. They only fight on rare occasions and I have never seen any major damage
  3. I have two 30cm+ ornates with my 30cm+ gold spot pleco and 15cm L014 sunshine pleco. I have had no problems apart from the ornates fighting with each other
  4. If you were coming to Nelson or Motueka I would get some peacocks and S. fryeri off you
  5. There is no reason at all why you couldn't use Africans to cycle your tank. Just use the cheap ones in case you have a problem with ammonia and nitrites
  6. Have you tried these? http://www.trademe.co.nz/Home-living/Pe ... 759127.htm

    hello

Welcome mate. Can I pick up the carpet saturday morning?
  8. Does it look like these ?
  9. The staple diet for my two 30cm+ Ornates is shrimp, diced mussel meat and pleco chips
  10. The PMDD that Hans is making and selling contains potassium sulphate and potassium nitrate. The other ingredients are listed here. http://www.fishkeepers.co.nz/forums/vie ... f=11&t=595 Sorry Caryl and Zev I couldn't find a list of ingredients on this site
  11. Yep its a Sun Sun. It's design is great. No taps that leak like on the other brands. Just a quick release system with non return valves. A primer pump that actually works and the UV lamp has a separate on/off switch so I can be used as and when its needed. If I had to pick a fault I would say that the baskets inside fit too tight and need a bit if a jiggle to remove. Other than that I can fault it. Ive had mine for about a year.
  12. When I had a small pond that got a similar algae I tried a product that I cant remember the name of but it looks like a blue chocolate bar. It cleared the pond and didn't harm the fish, snails or plants. My LFS told me that they sell heaps over summer to the forestry guys that use it to keep their fire fighting ponds free from algae.
  13. Ive got the 1400lph model with the built in UV bulb. Its better than a CF1200 IMO
  14. Time, more time and patience my friend
  15. Petmart in Richmond http://www.petmart.co.nz/cart_product22 ... tegory_ID=

  18. Hmmm. Thats a bit steep. Tim made my 700mm high 8 footer from 12mm for not much more than that. Just about to leave for blenheim, see you tomorrow in the whangamoas are closed by snow
  19. I believe that question can only be answered by how many generations it takes to breed back to a pure and true line of new blood offspring
  20. If you are talking about Tim, his tanks are great (I have quite a few of his) but be prepared for a long wait.
  21. I would class this as line breeding but the purists may beg to differ
  22. I had a discussion with phil about this a while back and he recons that his are not r.lanceolata as they grow to 15cm and his "blacks" get nowhere near that size
  23. Congrats and well done I will have to keep a close eye on my trio that are in with clowns that im trying to get to spawn again
  24. They could also be what phil sells as "Blacks" on trademe or young L010a
