  1. I'm leaning more and more towards T5's now. I'm going to look into the Fauna Marin Ultra-Solaris systems. Look pretty good!
  2. This is why I've asked the question. I've been running T5's on my current tank with is 600 deep aswel, and I dont think they are powerful enough, however these are 39W (well 45 cuz they're the new juwel ones) and I'm not sure how say 8x 54W would do?
  3. Like many others, I've decided after a mere 8 months in the hobby to upgrade to a bigger tank. Where the Juwel Trigon 350 corner tank has been good, I have found a lot of limitations especially with lighting, and the fact that I didnt take the time to sort out a sump to hide the skimmer etc. Heres the new tank, work in progress The tank has been built by Tim at insideoceans to fit the Rimu stand. Tim has also been kind enough to build me the overflow, sump, and sort out the plumbing. Tank is 1450x600x600 and made from 10mm glass. At this stage it will sport eurobracing, with the option of a centre brace if I'm not happy (i.e any bowing). I wanted to keep the centre of the tank as free as possible for lighting purposes, which is my next mission. Halides or a mass of T5's? With this tank i've always had the idea that I would run a couple of 250W MH's with a couple of 54W T5's (Combo unit like the Aqua Medic). However after talking with Tim, he suggested a mass of 54w T5's. I would've thought that being 600 high, that T5's wouldn't be powerful enough? Something i'm going to have to research a bit more I think. Any suggestions? Secondly I'm still in 2 minds about using the coral sand from my old tank mixed with new coral sand. I would like to use it for the fact that its already seeded, and will mean that I shouldn't see huge algae blooms like I would if I used 100% new sand. On the otherside of the coin though, I am reminded by Jolliolli's misfortune and am concerned that using the old sand may result in the same way? And no, BB isn't an option. I like the look of the coral sand Lastly I am still working out how I am going to transfer the livestock. As the new tank isn't required to be in the same place as the old tank, it gives me the time to be able to fill it and let it sit for a wee bit. Is it worth doing it this way and add a few rocks every day until they're transferred from 1 tank to the other, and then its just moving the fish? Or am I better planning out a whole day to transfer it all and use a large amount of the water already in my current tank? Cheers
  4. Mine are called "Biting little buggers" and other choice words that I use while they bite me as I clean. The only Finding Nemo name that stuck was Dory for my Blue Tang. I preferred calling it "Hungy Hungy Hippo" but everyone else in the house calls it Dory.
  5. Adaware, worth the download, can also run in the background. I hate spyware
  6. Mine never did as far as I saw Perhaps there were just soo many snails he couldn't eat them as fast as they were reproducing?
  7. Give another month i'll prob be able to harvest some more if you wanted? Depends how they'll cope with the tank move.
  8. Oh really? I think i'll wait until the new tank is up and running Did they have anything else interesting there? I'm supposed to be on their marine mailing list, but I guess they haven't bothered to email anything
  9. I'm not sure I think my remaining sea hare died aswel. Seems to have just vanished
  10. No impossible for it to get into the intake as the pump is inside a filterbox in the tank, unless of course something/one else decimated the poor guy and the guts got sucked up into the filter box? Or he timed a perfect jump to get into the filterbox? What i'm assuming is that he stuck his head into the hydor flo and it turned bad from there, as strange as it may seem
  11. So around 7 I noticed 1 of my Hydor Flos had stopped rotation. On closer inspection I noticed that some sort of guts had clogged it up and stopped it from turning. Did a head count and everyone was there except my 6line Wrasse. Didn't want to be concerned but I couldn't find another reason for there to be guts stuck in the flo. Just now i've seen a cleaner shrimp finishing off the wrasses carcass, with just its tail remaining. The only way that the wrasse could've got munched up is by swimming directly into the hydor flo. Suicide? Or Accident? Never heard of a Hydor Flo being a death trap for fish before?
  12. Oh I was going to do 2 seperate bags (1 for u 1 for John) Shall I just bung a whole heap in 1 and he'll sort you out?
  13. Should I chuck a piece of seaweed in the bag to give them something to munch on while theyre in there for the night?
  14. Which will probably die until I get new lights lol. I'll sort some out for ya, and hit u up for a frag or 2 when I get the MH's, hows that sound? Said to John i'd send some his way aswel so I guess i'll be snail hunting tonight
  15. Yeah they're turbos Saw 1 laying eggs last night so I guess that means even more. Snail infestation anyone?
  16. Oh well, if you still want some snails we can sort something out, whether it be now or later The 5ft tank might just have to look silly with the juwel T5's and T8's that I've currently got for a month, just hope nothing dies on me!. What else have ya got that I might want? I've gotta pop into the house of O tomorrow to pickup an additional heater for the new tank (starting to get bits and pieces together now so I dont have to later) so I'll try and get some snails into a bag tonight to bring with me if you want to meet there tomorrow? How many snails u want? (if you still want em?)
  17. On my days off? Dreaming!!!! No spewing in the tank please
  18. For SLR, the Sony Alpha 200 kits are at extremely good prices at the moment. Sony is new to the SLR market, but has so far prooved to be extremely good (had a play round with a few of the lenses myself). Only problem is, lenses are VERY expensive, but as its always said, you wont lose much money on glass
  19. OK so I'm back home again after 2 and a half weeks of being away, and last night assessed that i've got a number of snails the size of my little fingernail that can be traded/sold or whatever. Problem is catching them as they're only out at night. FYI, the parents of these little snails (which were this size when I got them) are now about as big as a $2 coin. Will they be ok if I caught them an hour or 2 after the lights are out, put them into a bag (with water of course) and left them floating in the tank overnight? Or is there a wee trick that'll catch them inside the tank during the night so I only have to put them into a bag in the morning? (something to do with a coke bottle?) As for what I want for them, I'm not too sure, but I'm going to be on the hunt shortly for some T5 lighting that I can borrow for my new tank while I save up for an MH Combo unit. Can you help out there at all Conch?
  20. Some of mine are big enough to trade if you want some? Might be a mission finding them though, theres hundreds of snails from baby to massive, and you can't even find 1 during the day haha
