  1. Was mainly to see what I was doing, but as someone round here said (I think it was puttputt) nearly all sumps turn into a fuge eventually
  2. Well it wasn't planned, but tonight everything was transferred. Everyone seems happy, although I am a wee bit concerned about my purple firefish, didn't seem very happy once in the tank, hopefully it'll be alright. Some pics... (The rocks in the sump will be removed, they're only in there temporarily) Thanks to John at Organism for the loaner lights
  3. Loving those Blenny pics! Tank looks awesome!
  4. Well If I found that Fans worked well like they did on the old tank, I wouldn't bother with a chiller at all! My cost for Fans - $0 Cost to run Fans - $ not enough to warrant the investigation. My cost for BASIC chiller - $500 Cost to run Chiller - $I'd hate to think!
  5. Oh and 3 more questions With no livestock in the tank, am I safe leaving the skimmer on the old tank until I start transferring fish, or should I have it running on the new tank for a couple of days to pick up any crap that may be floating in the water? 2nd is in regards to heater redundancy. Currently theres 1x 300w heater in each tank. If I put 2x 300w heaters into the new tank, will there be any issue if they are sitting right next to each other practically touching each other? Running on a heater controller of course 3rd is about cooling. I've had a good run with PC fans ontop of my old tank. I wouldn't mind looking at something similar for the new tank until I can afford a chiller (if it ever comes to that). Would the fans be required to be ontop of the main display, or would they be effective enough running ontop of the sump? Cheers
  6. So after the small hiccup of the overflow leak, tank is being refilled now. Without sounding too eager, I'd quite like to get some liverock in there by tomorrow night. Can anyone see any issues with the following? Fill tank, check plumbing and work out the max and min on the sump, make sure theres no water being sucked back through once pump off etc etc. Mix salt in, once mixed add coral sand (new not old) Bring temp up to 26 overnight, add more salt tomorrow if required. Once SG @ 1.025 @ 26deg, add 2 or 3 liverocks from old tank. Monday Night - Check NH4, NO2, NO3 & other important params, if in check look at adding corals & more liverock? If not leave and retest Tues night? (adding CAL or KH etc if required) If the plan works well, any reason why I couldn't have everything transferred over by next weekend? From what I can work out it shouldn't be a problem, but just want to make sure I haven't missed something important?
  7. fixed now, refilling as we speak
  8. Any bigger and I'll get kicked out i'd imagine Its lucky my partners Mum loves the fish hahaha
  9. Lol, the tank doesn't leak, the overflow does, and that will be fixed in approx 1 hour 20 mins
  10. The quick fixes sounded like a good idea, but now that I think about it, for the extra 3 - 4 hours it'll take to refill the tank, its certainly worth having drained it and patch up the hole, rather than try a quick fix and spend the next 6 months wondering whether or not it'll start leaking again
  11. I guess it can be put down to "cheap crap"
  12. I've got a switching wavemaker unit, but the pumps I got with it are pretty much useless, they run in reverse more times than they run in the right direction. What kind of pumps are worth looking at? I like the magnet holders of the tunze products, and believe that the 6055 can be used on a wavemaker? Thinking around the 3000lph range. Cheers
  13. Took about 3 hours to fill last night, and 30 mins to empty. Lol!
  14. Hahaha Tank is now draining (ducked home) and the mrs is keeping an eye on it. Ur right though Conch, better to do it right the first time
  15. Ur prob right PP, shame to see all that water wasted though. If we had a bath I'd use that to store it lol! Hahaha nah, Tims already been a huge help, and I always go by the "shit happens" philosophy
  16. So in filling my new tank last night, I discovered a tiny leak between the main display and the overflow. This means that when the tank is full, it will forever slowly fill the overflow, and will continue to fill the sump. Not a problem if the power is on, but if it shuts off, I'd give it about an hour before I end up with a wet floor (sump overflow) Spoke to Tim of Insideoceans last night who said to try aquakneed/bluetack/gum on the area of the leak, drain the overflow (if it can stop the leak from the tank side) dry & glue on the overflow end. Applied some Aquakneed it this morning, but I'm not sure its going to bond very well to the silicon. I wont know til I get home tonight and its dried, but in the mean time, is anyone aware of a product that may work better for sealing the leak so I can drain the overflow? Figure I'd ask to see if I had any other options before I have to empty the tank (got approx 420 litres in it at the mo, 520 litre capacity in display). Luckily its just DI water and isn't mixed with salt yet!
  17. In about 2 months, because thats when I'll have $$ for corals again!
  18. I know, but tell that to my conscience, who seems to find possible problems with anything!

    Juwel Heaters

Juwel heaters are crap to be honest. I've had 3 fail in a matter of 2 weeks and the shop I bought them from didn't believe they were faulty and blamed me for using them outside of the water. (I didn't bother taking the 2nd failure back because I didn't believe they'd give me a replacement) Bought a 300w Jager, not 1 problem at all.
  20. I've gotta sort out electrical cords etc etc, so once thats done I'll start filling it and pray it doesn't leak
  21. Tank is now at home (yay!). Pretty heavy! Big thanks to Tim for his help shifting, ontop of all the work he's done! A few pics taken in a rush this morning. If anyone wants to see something in more detail let me know and I'll take a specific photo Sorry, some of the pics are average, only had a few mins to take em before I had to leave for work
  22. I'll chip off one of the green mushrooms for ya when I do my tank transfer. Unfortunatly when they're fully expanded, they're not so green. I think my lighting isn't enough to keep the colour. That'll change shortly tho
  23. Watch out, someone might smack that bare bottom! I take it ur off to Otagomogo then? I'm guessing a decent sized syphon would work for the exposed sand, but you'd be needing to remove the rocks to get any thats under there. Someone else on here prob has a better idea
  24. And imagine the percentage of that which is going to die/has already died due to lack of research and improper equipment on the LFS/End Hobbiest side.
