  1. If FMXMatt = Homer and MAF = Bart Then
  2. Small enough that I didn't remember to look when I was in there at lunchtime
  3. My spirals seem to disappear once laid. I'm assuming the fish are eating them but I never see it (i'm house sitting at the mo so the tank is only viewed once a day for 10 mins)
  4. Have urs hatched tho conch? I thought u were gunna get rid of em?
  5. Lol I've got little squgglies all over the place. However only 1 sea hare now, with the other one taking the nanostream tunnel to fishy heaven. I have a feeling that when it got munched, it provided a bit of fish food for the rest of the fish. I couldn't find a trace of remains anywhere
  6. They've been hosting in it for 6 months without any issues. The torch seems to be thriving. It would be nice to see them in a real anemone though, then when they go and find food for their host, they'll actually be doing some good.
  7. as some of us have found, clowns aren't normally picky about what the host, but once they decide to host it, they aren't keen on giving it up. I get bitten by mine if I go near my torch coral. Any new fish that go near it soon get told that they aren't allowed to go near it again haha
  8. How do Damsels go in large aquariums like 5 ft aggression wise?
  9. I've got no problems with what they do, its just they focus on things which make bugger all difference, and ignore the real potential problems! Like Conch said in a post somewhere, MAF are worried about someone using a bucket they've used in the tank, to collect NSW, but dont care about a cargo ship which releases thousands of litres of ballast water (which was most probably collected over in asia somewhere) into our harbours. Their priorities need to change. Yes I agree that some species of fish/inverts can/will cause a problem if released into our waters. Do they have to make things hard for everyone due to these few species? No, they just choose to so they can make it so difficult that people will give up and its 1 less thing for them to worry about.
  10. They do, but they wont just host because you want them to host. No amount of willing, or swearing will get your clowns to host. I've heard of people waiting years for their clowns to host in an anemone, some will never host at all. How big is your tank? To me, if your clowns are hiding, suggests they aren't happy
  11.      No emoticon can express my feelings for MAF
  12. What other fish have you got in your tank? My 2 clowns host in my torch coral, and are very active swimmers. From what i've read, if clowns are hiding, there may be something thats upsetting them
  13. Yeah we work at the same place Get this, just received an invoice from MAF for their Audit they did on our facility. For 15 minutes they charged us $88.88, and also charged us a $40 "outside 10km radius" zone fee, when the guy rang me from the place over the road and said "I'm just over the road, can I pop in and do the Audit now?" Felt like ringing up to complain, but then I remembered its a Government department and they dont care
  14. Reminds me alot of my current place of employment Was just discussing with my partner at lunch about handing in our resignations at the same time and watch as the place falls to pieces after we've gone
  15. I used to be quite keen, and was looking at a job as a dog handler due to my experience with the breeding and training of beagles (incl 2 of them which are/were MAF dogs at CHC airport). However to do that job required being in the job for 2 - 3 years working in a totally unrelated department. Sort've lost interest after finding that out, and of course, being a government department there wasn't going to be any flexibility due to my current experience. Also with recent dealings with them through my current job, and now seeing what their policies are with the marine hobby, I dont think I want anything to do with them. They may aswel turn into Greenpeace and try and ban an element on the periodic table.
  16. Its funny you say that, because my brother did work experience with them while he was in High School, and they stated time and time again that "University Biology" was a pre-requisit for getting a job with MAF, unless you had very high marks in 7th form Bio. My opinion of "Certificates and Degrees" is that they are a waste of time, money and effort and it would appear even with a piece of paper that says they passed Uni Bio, half the people they employ wouldn't know a garden weed from an aquatic plant, even if 1 was in the garden and 1 was submerged in a fish tank
  17. or it was 1 hell of a ride I think these things try to commit suicide
  18. Had 2 Hopefully the other one doesn't end up the same way
  19. Uh Oh! Got home tonight to find that my nanostream had eaten 1 of the slugs.... well all apart from its head and a bit of guts that I found when I removed it. Poor little bugger Be careful with nanostreams I was warned but took the risk
  20. See how things go, u might find a buyer before then Him and Wilsons Brittlestar can make a hangout in the new sump
  21. When u wanna get rid of the wee guy? I'll buy him but cant collect until the new tank is up and running
  22. Thats right, he mentioned the algae thing to me aswel. Said that the girl that was doing the check had absolutely NO IDEA WHATSOEVER about what she was doing or what was what. MAF are really starting to XXX me off. Government departments make their own rules and there aint nothing you can do about it. Just like the Police
  23. They were, and I had a similar conversation with him. Because they were importing they had to have their own QT facility obviously, and from what I gather it needed quite a bit of money spent on it to bring it up to new standards or something like that? He also made a good point in that each Marine fish requires individual attention, and with losing a staff member the job has become far too large and the money isn't there to support continuing. He did say to me though, that in time, depending on a number of things, he may look at starting up again.
  24. Mine tend to hide up the top of the tank where there is flow, and curl up into a ball and just sit there for days until i flick them off haha
