  1. I was keen on the Tiger Barbs but didn't think they would work. Though now i'm considering the Colombian Tetras, they look pretty cool! These arent dither fish for the BGK, they're for the EBJD's
  2. So i'm looking for a few dither fish to go with my EBJD's and Black Ghost Knife. Someone had suggested Barbs, but I would imagine they will destroy the BGK after a certain while. Are there any larger Tetras or other shoaling fish that aren't too agressive and that aren't small enough to become dinner?
  3. Not including the tail (I assume when measuring freshies its the same as marine?) the female would be 2 inches, and male 2.5 - 3 inches Ultimately i'm after 2x large fish for the tank, and the EBJD look awesome fully grown, how could I resist? Shame it takes so long to grow though! lol Not sure if other EBJD owners are aware, but I found a EBJD forum with some interesting topics. Worth a look http://bluejax.14.forumer.com/ :bounce:
  4. Heres my 2 And the male by himself
  5. So i've been hunting through alot of old posts, all the way back to 2007, and seeing pics of EBJD's of a few months old (Currently where mine are) How are these fish going now? How big are they? Any breeding happening? Want to share some pics? I'm quite keen to see some "older" EBJD's to see how they have developed etc. I'll take some photos of my 2 tonight to share, but i'm hoping someone will get started before I get home
  6. Awesome vid, thought I should post one of my own too Travis Pastrana (Freestyle MotoX God) Nutcase!
  7. Yesterday I aquired some Mouses ear from a local store. As I was asking for it, the chick told me that it was a "cold water" plant and wouldn't survive in a tropical tank. I thought this was strange as I'm sure I've had mouses ear before in a previous tank, have seen it in tropical tanks from members around this forum, and the fact it was sitting in a tropical tank at the shop indicated she was probably wrong. What is the deal with it? And what is its scientific name (if anyone knows?) Cheers
  8. Mines not agressive, but can decimate a shoal of 20 neons in about 10 days, at night, leaving no trace whatsoever. Mine is mates with a large spotty plec, they share the same cave
  9. Lets see how he likes his own tank then
  10. Have recently just moved in to a new house, and the tank has been setup and is all ok, except the fish prefer to spend all day hiding. It was the 2nd time they had a big shift over a month, so I can understand they would be a little uneasy about things, but its been 2 weeks, and still all I look at is a bare tank. The only fish that I see on the odd occasion is my Rainbow shark. He does appear to be a bit of a bully towards the others. Is it likely they are hiding because of him? Or are they likely to sulk for this length of time due to being shifted twice so often? The first time they shifted, after a day they were more active than I had seen them ever! Which is why i'm a little confused. Anything I'm missing? Stocklist: Rainbow Shark Large Spotty Plec 2x Blue Jack Dempseys (M & F, don't appear to have paired though) 1x Black Knife Fish As mentioned, the Rainbow shark is the only one who seems to cause problems on the odd occasion. Shall I put him in his own wee tank and see if things improove? Sorry, if these were marine fish I'd probably know the answer, but my knowledge on freshies isn't up to speed yet Cheers
  11. Thanks for all the replies Will have a closer look at the cylinder when I get home
  12. Bugger, more money to fork out Cheers
  13. If there is, what steps can be taken to increase hot water pressure? Pressure at the kitchen faucet is reasonably good, but the shower and bathroom faucet pressure is quite alot weaker. Can you turn up pressure from the hot water cylinder, or is it a job for a plumber to come out and replace/repair pieces etc? Cheers
  14. I'm almost certain its the red wire. Just try it anyway, you cant do any damage if its wrong. Depending on the type of head unit, the majority of "standard" sized ones only have 2 power wires, Accessory and Battery (i.e 1 thats works with the key (usually red) and one which works all the time (usually yellow). The rest are speaker wires, earth (usually black) or remote amp/electric aerial wires. Because the band expander isn't actually creating power, it wont matter if you hook it up to the wrong wire. It'll either work or not. Trial and error. Alternatively if ur not that keen, take a pic of what you can see. One of us should be able to work out one that'll work for ya
  15. All but 1 baffle were removed as I was fitting a large skimmer, so its the pipe from the tank into 1 chamber, fills up and tips into a big chamber which has the return pump. I can add baffles again, but considering the above, could I get away with filter media in just the first chamber?
  16. Good stuff. I had read a few articles on the net that were against it, so I wasn't sure. Seems the feedback is unanamous So which way to do it tho? Its a 520 Litre display, 100 Litre Sump. Do I just run the sump like a tank, or do I setup baffles? If I setup baffles, do I run the sump AS a filter, or do I get an external filter which is rated to 650+ litres?
  17. This may have been posted before, but I've decided to post instead of search, so sue me My old 5ft Marine tank has a sump. At some point, I want to set this up as a freshwater tropical tank. Do I block off the overflow bits and get a filter to suit the display, or is it common practice to utilize a sump the same way a marine tank does? If so, do I get a normal external filter for the sump, or do I set this up with baffles etc to run my own kind of filter? (I.e same way a filter works with the different portions of filter media) All the plumbing is done in the tank so I would be keen to use it, also to hide stuff like heaters and filter pieces, BUT, I also want to know if it causes any problems, and if it would be easier not to have one etc. Livingart, I've been told you run sumps on your freshwater tanks, I would be keen to hear your input aswel Cheers
  18. I could do a 920 940's are about $1k cost price
  19. Going to Lindeman Island, and planning to dive from there, but want something to play round with during the days etc.
  20. 4 of us are heading over to the Barrier Reef in March, and would like to purchase some snorkel sets before we go (we have flippers, jsut need mask and snorkel) Can anyone recommend a set thats worth looking at? Lots of options around the place, but its hard to know whats good, and whats not. Prefer to spend $40 - $60 per set, but open to opinions. We're only casual snorkellers, and not overly worried if they only last the use of this trip (as its probably another year before we'll get away again) Cheers
  21. Providing you want to give up smoking, and you have a hypnotist who knows what he's doing, then you've got a 100% chance for success. I'm 2/3 of the way through my hypnotherapy training, and one of the subjects covered was aiding people to give up smoking. Its actually very very simple, but it does rely on whats mentioned above. I would be interested to know what induction he/she used (i.e the way he got you into hypnosis) and how you got on afterwoulds if you or anyone else didn't mind sharing?
  22. Good option, unfortuantly most of my mates taint their body with that aweful speights Edit Billaney
