Bleeding hearts are pretty, but they are also quite BIG. They sort of dwarf the Cardinals. A better option would be Rosy tetras, if you want something pinkish. They are slighty bigger than Cardinals.

So how much would it cost for good-quality stuff?

$3-400 for a pressurized CO2 system... That is SO cheap! Is all of the gear really good quality (like all those shiny brass-looking things you see people use on overseas forums)?

A lot of people are saying Cardinals and Rummynoses look great together, but I totally disargree. I think the bright electric colours of the Cardinals overpower the Rummynoses and makes them appear almost washed out, plus both fish have the same shaped bodies. I would add a shoal of Kitty Tetras (Hyphessobrycon heliacus) instead of Rummynoses. They have a different body shape, and they are dazzling iridescent yellow, and they'd look wonderful with the Cardinals. A slightly cheaper option is Black Plantom Tetras. They don't have bright colours, but make up for that with the lovely shape of their fins, and the 'peacock' eyespot on the side of the body.

Your tanks are astonishing Jennifer. I really love them. That Windelov is so cool. What are you going do in the other tank now that you have moved the big log out?

I have much less Bolbitis than you (only 3 tiny plants I NEED more, but I'm saving up for a $3000 aprox. Arcadia metal halide pendant lightinghood, so I can't spend money!) but it seems quite ok. CO2 in my tank is DIY. It is easy. Surely you can rig up a DIY system. I use a 3 liter juice bottle, with: 2 cups white sugar (dissolved in 1/2 a liter of boiling water, then cooled afterwards by being topped up to 1 liter with cold water). I then put it in the bottle. 1/2 a sachet of yeast A squirt of tomato sauce Then I shake the bottle, and top it up to about 10-15cm from the top. I use a Pollen Glass Nano diffuser.

My Bolbitis loves CO2. I have a little bit tied to a piece of bogwood at the bottom of the tank, and it gets mulm and decaying matter on it which also helps it along. Water current does help, but it is not crucial. Once I just had it drifting around the bottom of the tank, where there was no current, and it was sprouting little leaves quite happily!

My Turquoisine hen has 5 eggs (I think. Possibly more, but not less). The cock sometimes sits on my shoulder when I go into the aviary. If I get chicks, I might try and hand-raise a couple, and see if they make good pets.

Yeah get a T5HO Glo unit, and your choice of Power/Life Glo tubes or a combo of both. A Hagen T5HO hood can fit 2 tubes in it.

I have an Aqua One CF 1000. I clean it every couple of months, to remove dirt, but I've never had it clog. It cost around $160. It only takes a few mintues to clean, and it's silent as. Its the best think I ever invested in. I haven't tried Eheim, but I am tempted, because the thermofilters look REALLY good. I don't like having an ugly thermostat sitting in the tank. It sucks that you can't get Aqua One Thermofilters About Aqua One filters sucking up air - the solution is SIMPLE! Don't put the intake by an airstone, or put it by the surface!

Fluval thermostats are incredible. I have a Fluval 200watt in my tank (which is 150 liters), and I'll never look back.

Let's put an end to this pointless conversation. I hate to think where it will end up. We are also sabotaging A-town's thread. Let's just stick to the topic, which is to try and ID the mosses in the photos.

I compred it to my other moss, and it didn't look like java or xmas. It was much coarser. I've only got a wee bit left, which is covered in xmas moss so it's getting barely any light and isn't growing properly.

I found it in the local river. I also saw some that was better developed, because it was higher up on the side of the river on a stone, therefor recieved more light. I took it (but there was only a bit), but it got cyanobacter on it and got choked. It was definately willow moss. Do you expect to see java or xmas moss in your local stream? NO. The other stuff I took was right down on the bottom of river bed, and hadn't grown as well because it recieved less light. Willow moss has high lighting needs if it is to grow properly.

Are Planaria a good thing?

Yes you need a bubble counter, but only if you are getting a small tank. If your new tank is going to be rather large, maybe around 70 liters or more, and you are going to have lots of plants, you'll need a beetle counter instead because you will be using more CO2. And you need some type of Pollen Glass Diffuser.
