What site did you order the ferts from?
  3. Maybe it's insides got a bit clogged up and it couldn't pass the food through the intestings or something? Could have eaten a stone or something?
  4. Congratulations Jennifer! Well done. Beautiful fish :bounce:
  5. You should have seen my Apistogramma trifasciata breeding tank before I dismantled it (and moved them into my community tank, which was hit with a freak columnaris outbreak and I lost them ). It had lots of oak leaves, bogwood and Java Fern, sand and all that sort of stuff.
  6. Ooooh Peacock eels! Sounds cool. I don't know much about them though.
  7. I REALLY want some more, but I have to tell myself no, because I'm saving up for my metal halide light. It's about $2000-3000 And I've only saved $50! Enough for congo fern, but then I'll have to start saving again and if that keeps happening I'll never get my lightinghood.
  8. Moss looks all slimy. In the bottom pic, is that other dark green plant next to the moss Bolbitis heudelotii?
  9. Blue rams can actually get quite large. You should see Jennifer's pair! Combined with the Cardinals, they will look great in the tank and will be the feature fish. The Cardinals are a schooling fish and are very beautiful. Otos and Pandas will clean up. I wouldn't put in the Bristlenoses, otherwise it will be catfish overload!
  10. But what I suggested was low-tech. So are you sure you aren't meaning you want the tank to be SUPER-LOW tech?
  11. If the fish aren't stressed or agitated it should be alright. And if they're eating it - well, it must be good. Just watch them and find out...
  12. If I were you, I'd ditch the fruit salad gravel and go to the nearest beach and get some clean sand. Beach sand has ground-up shell in it, which provides your plants with magnesium and calcium. The best part about it though is that it's free and you can take as much as you want! CO2 is a good idea too, and DIY would work very well for a tank that size. Fish - well, maybe not Pearl Gouramis, they might jump. The only reason I think so is they are an anabantoid, and I had a fighter which jumped through a tiny gap once. I would be thinking more along the lines of small tetras, small loaches (Zodiac and/or Khuli loaches), or a large school of Mossie rasboras and some Emerald Dwarf Danios. A pair Apistogrammas and/or Rams is a must. Some more plants other than val would look good too. Small bits of bogwood are a must because they soften the water which the fish love (unless your getting hardwater fish).
  13. Yeah ditch the glass cats and add about 15 Cardinals.
  14. Wow what a cool choice of fish. My mum likes Rummynose Tetras, and wants me to eventually get some for my tank. I have 3 Golden Bristlenoses, and they bring me much pleasure. Sadly, a few months back my tank suffered a freak columnaris outbreak, and I lost my breeding pair of Khulis. The electric blue rams look cool. I've seen them for sale quite a lot when I've been to Christchurch before. I might have to get some eventually. I love all the healthy plant growth in your tank. I use DIY CO2 too, and it works well. I use nano Pollen Glass cup Diffusers to diffuse the CO2.
  15. List all the plants while your at it too What are dimentions of your tank?
  16. Use an external canister filter. The flow will be too much for your tank, so get a type that allows you to ajust the flow. A small type of Eheim thermofilter will be good, because it has an integrated heating system so you won't need to clutter up your small tank with a thermostat. I've used undergravel filters, internal filters and canister filters before, and my favourite is the canister filters. They provide extremley good mechanical and biological filtration, and are easy to clean. Internal filters are hard to clean, because when you take them out I've found that when all the water comes out, so does the dirt in the filter. And undergravel filters - you can't use sand with them. I've also found it takes ages for bacteria to become established, so at first they provide no filtration.
  17. Wow that is the best your tank has ever looked! It is stunning! Maybe I should change my original plan for my tank and do something like yours? The giant sword plant looks great. I love the big school of Cardinals. The layout is fantastic! It looks like an Amazon-type tank. If I did change my plan and do something like yours, it would be much cheaper to save up for everything. I'd just need the T5 Glo Hood + tubes, a bigger tank, a proper stand, and some more substrate.
  18. Wow what a stunning tank! What are the specs? Is the little cichlid an electric blue ram?
  19. Windelov is wonderful. I've got some and I don't regret getting it. Bolbitis heudelotii is also extremely nice, and I recommend that too. I want some more, cause I only have a tiny bit at the moment.
  20. Cool. A good idea too would to be to put the legal and illegal plants in different catagories, so people would know if they had an illegal plant or not, and if so, be able to destroy it before the get caught and fined.
  21. Then why hasn't someone updated it?
