  1. It spreads, but once attached to the glass it just grows there - it never gets near the UV filter.
  2. The simplist solution is to increase circulation across the face of the tank (perhaps with a little submerible pump). Once you clean it off, it won't be able to re-colonise if the water is moving too fast.
  3. They seem to be happiest in groups of about 7, but that tank is probably big enough to support 10-12 if you are providing food directly to them.
  4. Should be fine - you'll be fine with one 300 watt heater, unless your house / fishroom is particularly poorly insulated. Stocking level seems fine too
  5. Yep, I'd have to agree that a lot of animals are far more aware than what people generally want to admit. Over in the States there is a woman with some sort of mental/personality disorder who apparently has a talent for 'reading' animals feelings, and now designs 'low stress' slaughter houses.
  6. Yep, its the heat no doubt. I'm pretty keen to try it on Wilson's tank before I use it on my own
  7. Hell yea! I eat plenty of fish - I must admit I hesitated a little the first time I caught a beautiful Blue Cod off the pier on Stewart Island, but boy, with a little butter and lemon juice that tasted good! So long as you eat what you catch, I don't see a problem with it.
  8. Someone told me yours had grown into a magic carpet that flew all over your tank!
  9. Probably Erythromycin - I just treated someone elses freshwater tank that had a bad outbreak of Blue/green, and it has worked wonders - gone in a day and no measurable effect on the biofilter at all. I'm just wondering if it might have a similar use in saltwater, although maybe there is collateral damage? Can't find anything that says DON'T use it, so maybe it hasn't been tried. Firstly we could just hook some out of a tank and see if the Erythromycin kills it, and if it does we can try it on a tank with cheap corals perhaps?
  10. They are harmless - your mini-epidemic will self correct in a week or two - plus they are good fish food too
  11. Does anyone want to try? Wilson... I hear you might have some red cyano we can play with...
  12. Incidentally, has anyone ever tried treating Red cyano with antibiotics in a saltwater environment? Wilson, want to try?
  13. I'm in de-clutter mode - I have too many tanks, and spend too much time and money maintaining them - I want to free up some time and money to do other things. I won't be sad to see it go - I need a new (non-fish related) challenge.
  14. I think there is definitely 2K of stock (I paid well more than twice that) - the Acanthastrea is worth plenty on its own, not to mention other rarities like the Chilli coral and black suns. It is still a high price-point, though, I know. Maybe I'll end up 'storing' it with a friend.
  15. Out of my random critters tank and (formerly) RSM sump - which is also for sale, along with the overflow system... Sapphire?
  16. So, RSM is still up for grabs! Come on, who wants it? tHEcONCH has gone into 'de-clutter' mode and will be dropping two tanks in the very near future - so who wants the RSM? I'll feed it to my other tanks if no-one wants it
  17. So, hands up who wants to buy tHEcONCH's RSM? Stocked. I'm seriously considering setting up a 4' 'biotype' tank with just the Cataphyllia and Zostera for the two Mandarins, nothing else (well maybe a few zoos or something). Anyone? PM me if you are seriously interested. No, I won't be splitting it up (maybe a group of you wants to form a syndicate and split it amongst yourselves?) PM me. Go on - you know you want it... :bounce:
  18. These are great fish, easy to care for, and always fun to watch. I have a breeding pair (and lots of juveniles) in a heavil;y planted 1.2metre long community tank which seems about right for them. http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/sp ... es_id=1933

    That's the spirit!
  21. Dropsey is probably better thought of as a symptom, rather than a disease per se. It can have several causes, but is generally an indicator of incurable organ failure. Bloat caused by an intestinal tract infection or oclusion can look similar.
