  1. Because I have a 'spare' Hailea FA-400 tank which was going to be my RSM sump - I'm trying to sell the RSM, so the sump tank is spare, and I've got as 'giant' sea hare to accomodate :-?
  2. So, I've decided to turn my RSM sump into a low-light Sea Hare - O - Rama. Other than Mushrooms, what will grow under my magnificent 18 Watts of T5 power?
  3. I learned that shorting 3phase power through a metal rack looks spectacular!
  4. For anyone contemplating the Sea Horses, read this: http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm ... cleid=2786
  5. Very nice NOT BROWN zoos there too
  6. I need salt - got to maintain it even though I'm a bit over the whole thing. Living creatures 'n all.
  7. New corals are in - see you all there in 5 minutes...

Perren, the bubbles will disappear in a few days, but if they dont contact John - he has a 'trouble shooter' sheet for the RSM that he can probably send you a copy of. With regard to the lights, it isn't critical until you have livestock in there, but I'd just set them for 12 hours or however long you intend to keep them on for normally.
  9. Like most fish they are fine to keep if you meet their needs, which means very high water quality, the right kind of substrate, no aggressive or fastmoving fish, plenty of cover, and the right kind of food. They tend to not do very well in community tanks but can do quite well in tanks set up around them.
  10. They are quite shy and sensitive and can be difficult to keep because they are very sensitive to poor water and also some common medications, and sometimes they can also be difficult to feed - they often die prematurely because people assume they are easier to keep than they really are.
  11. You could argue that Smoking is good for society in general, because all the sick / stupid people and tax revenue generated sustain an industry, which is good for our economy. Without a bunch of cancerous smokers to treat, what would all the doctors and nurses do - hip replacements? Treat childhood cancer?
  12. What about on the big round'about on Blenheim Road?
  13. Start with once every three days or so - a piece of food as big as your little finger nail. If it isn't hungry it won't eat, in which case remove the food and wait another day. You will be able to see the food going in - it will appear as a lump on top of its 'head'. Once that is gone, it is hungry again.
  14. Most likely you have some sort of antibacterial contaminant that has reduced the capicity of your bio-filtration, e.g. soap residue or flyspray. Just keep doing water changes and/or dose the tank with JBL Filterstart, Cycle, or similar.
  15. My RSM, which I'll call a 2 foot, has cost me about $3500 per foot... so far... :-?
  16. 1. The power heads can be quite noisy if the power chords chater against the trim that cover the channel across the top of the tank. Lift the hood and put you finger on each chord - if it quietens, you need to move the chord one way or the other so that it doesn't chatter. If it has no effect put your finger on each of the pumps - if it quietens, you need to make sure the nozzle holding it on is tight, and that the two pumps are perfectly upright - if they touch, they wil be noisy. They will also become quieter as the slime coat grows inside them (acts as a lubricant) 2. Most people I know have taken the grey knob right out - but if your skimmer cup fills with water you'll need to screw it down until the foamy bubbles stop just below the top of the cone in the removable cup 3. It will probably take any marine flesh - shrimps, fish, whatever - they'll even take freeze dried crickets - just don't overfeed it.

I'll see what I can do - they seem to spend quite a bit of time hiding in the holes in the log :-?
  18. Might it have been diatoms? If so, did you notice gazzillions of random little critters eating it?

I've got a couple, but I'm not entirely certain of the sexes - what should I look for? I suspect I've got a male (bristly) and maybe a subordinate male (not so bristly).

    Liighting

If it is just for your eyes, rather than the plants, then just use plain white fluros of whatever type take your fancy.
  21. It was a generous offer! I had heard on the grapevine (so it must be true) that he had a cyano mat to die for
  22. Ah yes! That is her - I watched a facinating documentary on her a few years ago. Very interesting lady.
  23. If you are going to keep different species, I'd suggest 7 each of 2 different species to start.
