    sea grass

it is better if you can expose it daily then you can just use local grass ie a tidal tank but in a tank or sump situation mo matter how good the lighting it slowly dies off unless it is a type that is used to full immersion

    sea grass

sea grass needs to be fully submerged variety, only 2 places in nz it grows fully submerged, i have some growing collected from pools at lowtide that still contained water all year round this is growing in a 9,500 litre outside pool though sponges etc and plants from deeper water should be all right as lower light requirements
  8. to phoenix44 some look but don't see some hear but don't listen
  9. yes was a funny auction, went for big money and then offered back at a reduced price apparently the buyer wasn't setup to feed a young beardie properly so seller was more concerned to get it a good home it has been said that i was an idiot for "paying more then market price for a one eyed beardy" by someone without all the facts it is a nice fat little beardie now
  10. its the other extreme a one eyed aucklander
  11. i'm a sucker for the oddball animals i think its name shall remain odin just goes to show not to give up on things
  12. no it is not a reference to a beardie under going a spiritual revelation got offered a young, one eyed beardie that sold on the auction site for an over the top price at a greatly reduced price so took it on when we recieved it i noticed that the eye was still moving under the eyelid but the lid wouldn't open tried moistening to prise lids apart but no go as the beardie was too young and small to exert much pressure had to feed lots of live food, locusts etc into the terrarium as it could only see from one side a few weeks down the track, a skin shed and now that it has grown some more i could handle it better tried again and was able to manipulate the eyelids open to find a fully functional eye underneath so we will have to change its name from Odin
  13. it should be about what is best for the beardie
  14. if your talking food for crickets i think only to be fed to crickets and breakdown of what it contains will be sufficient i have talked to my head cricket and a few wild ones and they assure me there is no laws governing what they eat, so they can pigout on what they like
  15. good to meet you heidy, a genuine person tested all the reps and torts, but only a few of the turtles too many turts would have been swabbing for quite a while so just a few from each group thanks for the visit and the beer
  16. the sump is in the basement and he lives on the 8th floor
  17. you could syringe acidopholus mixed in luke warm, only drawback with yoghurt may be dairy base? has vet tried a stimulant on it? glad someone is doing clinical trials on this navarre we have used acidopholus on our animals for years also dried faeces from a healthy bird, powdered and fed to very young or sick bird to reinstigate gut flora seemed to work in the past
  18. if you get it to eat add some acidopholus to food antibiotics kill the good gut bacteria as well as the bad even used the acidopholus yoghurt in the past capsules from health food shop the best
  19. as repto said donna, keep him out of water and warm sounds like system has shut down, probably inadequate diet curling toes can be a sign of this strange that internally the turtle xrays as white, major blockage? or it hasn't been cooked has it, ie kept at too high a temp for too long sorry but all i can say is good luck with him
  20. don't forget the noise phoenix we have 8 tame ones together
  21. if you have a tame one it maybe best to keep it by itself as personalities can clash, jeaulousy can happen do you know what sex yours is?
